Polygraph Results

Overview
Polygraph results fail to conform to the Frye doctrine and are therefore inadmissible as evidence in court. This doctrine, enunciated in Frye v. United States (1923) states that, before the results of scientific tests will be admissible as evidence in a trial, the procedures used must be sufficiently established to have gained general acceptance in the particular field to which they belong. Most courts refuse to admit the results of polygraph (lie detector) tests in civil or criminal proceedings unless admissibility is agreed to by both parties.

Instructions
Polygraph results are frequently used in situations such as pre-employment screening or background tests. Why should these results be excluded from courtrooms?

For this assignment, prepare a three-page memorandum to your supervisor, an attorney, addressing the admissibility of polygraph results.

In your memorandum:

Analyze the current position of the U.S. Supreme Court with respect to reliability and admissibility of polygraph evidence.
Determine the potential impact of Frye v. United States on criminal cases.
Be sure to review the Polygraph Results Scoring Guide to ensure you understand the criteria for this assignment.

Requirements
Your memorandum should meet the following requirements:

Written communication: Must be free of errors that detract from the overall message.
References: A minimum of two references.
APA format: Format resources and citations as per current APA style and formatting guidelines.
Length of memorandum: Three pages, not including the title page and the references page.
Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.
You are required to submit a draft of your paper to SafeAssign. Once you review your results and make any needed changes, submit your paper for grading.

Prompt:
Select a major city in the U.S. and examine its sister city from the list of sister cities provided.
Share some geographic information on A) the U.S. city that you selected and B) its sister city (some of them have more than one city but, you are only required to investigate one sister city).
Where is the city located?
What is the population size and demographics?
What language(s) is/are spoken?
What is the structure of the education system?

Write at least three paragraphs- please refer to the city example below. Please make sure one paragraph summarizes each city and the last paragraph compares and contrasts the cities and the education system in each. Please include in the last paragraph one of the sociological perspectives discussed in class (conflict theory, functionalist theory or symbolic interactionist theory) and how it relates to the education system in the two cities you chose.

Mezzo and Macro Practice Settings Mezzo (sometimes spelled as meso) and macro pr

Mezzo and Macro Practice Settings
Mezzo (sometimes spelled as meso) and macro practice settings involve working with larger systems. In this sense, you move from the individual to mid-level systems that are part of the community and neighborhood. The mezzo level can act as a cushion between the micro level and the macro level when communities are safe, schools are strong, and families and neighborhoods are connected. However, the mezzo level can also act as a barrier or source of conflict if poverty or crime, or substandard schools are part of a neighborhood’s fabric, or families are disconnected or isolated. Mezzo practice involves working with groups or organizations to affect community or institutional change. This can mean working with a local organization on social issues important to constituents such as poverty, child abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, and crime.
Macro practice settings can encompass the level of social work in which advocacy and community organizing are common. Macro practice is a large-scale practice, and work becomes more indirect (meaning the work is conducted at an administrative or social policy level rather than working directly with an individual). Several of the prominent historical social workers such as Jane Addams focused on macro practice as part of community welfare planning, which resulted in the social service movement and broad social reform.
Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.
Using the information you gathered from Week 1, prepare a chart in which you describe the available agencies and organizations that would be able to address the social problem/issue that you identified. Please describe the types of practice skills that would be needed in a mezzo or macro practice setting. You may find that these skills overlap, and if so, explain why.
Support your assignment with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.
Length: 2 -page chart, not including title and reference pages
Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic
