Paper 1: Concept and Theory Exploration, Integration, and Synthesis.  All papers should be 2-3 pages in length, double spaced, and should include a title page and refence page.  The title and reference pages are not included in the page limit.

For the first paper, pick 1-2 concepts from the Relational Perspective reading (I suggest using the system tenets or pragmatic principles) and 1-2 concepts from Chapter 1 of the Wood text (I suggest using the concepts from the Features of Interpersonal Communication section and/or the Principles of Interpersonal Communication section).

Your paper should have 5 distinct sections.

Introduction: Preview your paper and provide an introduction to what the paper will accomplish.
Main Body:

Exploration. Identify the concepts you will be working with.  Define the concepts using definitions from the text and readings.  Explain the concepts in your own words and provide an example that illustrates and demonstrates your understanding of them.

Integration. Explain how the various concepts are related to each other.  You might examine how they are similar, different, or how they build (or not build) on each other. Comparing and contrasting concepts may illustrate strengths and weaknesses of each or uncover how they can be combined to create new understanding.

Synthesis. Provide a practical application of the concepts that helps you understand relationships. You can apply the concepts to your own relationships, relationships you have observed in person, or a movie, tv show, or any other media stream.  The application should provide evidence of your mastery of the concepts.

Conclusion: Summarize the main findings or news explicated in your paper.

Understanding the role that finance plays in health care is critical for all health care professions. For this assignment, look at the effect of cost and how finances in health care are affected.

Write a 1,250-1,500 word essay addressing the following questions:
-What is cost containment and how has it affected health care?
-What cost containment practices do we see from private health insurance versus public health insurance?
-How do national expenditures affect an organization? What trends are we seeing with national expenditures? What does the future look like?

Middle East Book Review Guidelines: I suggest you come up with four or five main aspects of the book you choose, particularly dealing with the main character(s) and what they have to say about the people they are connected to (Kanafani: the various stories he has about the plight of the Palestinians; Sabahattin Ali: Raifs life both in Berlin & Turkey). You then should look at your class notes and try to connect the books to some of the fundamental trends in the course (Kanafani: the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Peoples Front for the Liberation of Palestine; Sabahattin Ali: nature & limitations of Westernization in Turkey). You also should preface the work with something about the author of the book you choose and the biases either might have had (Kanafani & Sabahattin Ali: Middle Eastern educated leftists). Below are the definitions for the three components of GEOINT:

Imagery: A likeness or presentation of any natural or man-made feature or related object or activity and the positional data acquired at the same time the likeness or representation was acquired, including products produced by space-based national intelligence reconnaissance systems, and likenesses or presentations produced by satellites, airborne platforms, unmanned aerial vehicles, or other similar means (except that such term does not include handheld or clandestine photography taken by or on behalf of human intelligence collection organizations).

Imagery Intelligence: The technical, geographic, and intelligence information derived through the interpretation or analysis of imagery and collateral materials.

Geospatial Information: Information that identifies the geographic location and characteristics of natural or constructed features and boundaries on the earth, including: statistical data; information derived from, among other things, remote sensing, mapping, and surveying technologies; and mapping, charting, geodetic data, and related products.1

Question: Discuss how the three GEOINT components are applied to a military, civilian, or commercial intelligence problem-set or scenario. This should be an actual intelligence problem that is of concern to the Intelligence Community (past or present). If in doubt, please ask before you begin writing.

Example Scenarios: Raid on Osama bin Laden, Iranian production of a nuclear weapon, spread of Ebola…be creative. Just remember, this should be a problem of concern to the Intelligence Community.
