Jan and Kim Levering have decided to expand their IT consulting business. They have leased space in a nearby building. The following are the details:

  • They will have an entire floor that has the following:
    • a receptionist area
    • 2 offices (one for Jan and one for Kim)
    • a conference room

Crime and crime control policy are major topics of public discussion these days. To develop your skills as researchers in the field of criminology and as critical consumers of information regarding crime and public policy, for each section of the course, you will review an empirical article on a criminological topic related to that section (types of crime, the criminal justice system, and/or theories of crime).

To successfully complete these writing assignments, you will need to locate a relevant social scientific article on a criminological topic related to that section of the course (types of crime, the criminal justice system, theories of crime) and write a 2-page review of that article. Your article review must include the following elements: 1) a brief description of the topic you have chosen; 2) a statement of the research question or topic of the article; 3) an explanation of the research methods used by the author to answer the research question; 4) a description of the main findings from the author’s research; and 5) a statement of how the findings contribute to understanding the chosen topic.

In addition to these elements, papers will also be graded on the quality of writing and formatting. Your writing should consist of simple, clear, direct sentences. The papers must be double-spaced, with one-inch margins, in one of the following fonts: Arial, Calibri, Courier New, or Palatino Linotype at a font size of 11 points or Times New Roman at a font size of 12 points. Citations and references must adhere to ASA Style _ Lastly, your reviews must include the abstract from the article cut and pasted on a final third page.
