Discussion: Strategies for Academic Portfolios
In the realm of marketing, a successful branding strategy is one of the most important contributors to organizational success. A solid branding strategy can help add visibility and credibility to a companys products.

Similarly, nurse-scholars can build a personal brand to add visibility and credibility to their work. You can begin building your brand by developing and maintaining an academic portfolio. Such an activity can help share the results of your efforts and contribute to your success. This Modules Discussion asks you to consider and share strategies for building your portfolio.

To Prepare:

Reflect on strategies that you can pursue in developing portfolios or portfolio elements that focus on academic achievements.
Review one or more samples from your own research of resources focused on portfolio development.
By Day 3 of Week 8
Post an explanation of at least two strategies for including academic activities and accomplishments into your professional development goals. Then, explain how those goals may align with the Universitys emphasis on social change. Be specific and provide examples.

Respond to each discussion question at the end of the case. These assignments are to be a minimum of 850 words and no more than 1250 words in length. They should also be specific to the question being asked. Each case question must be typed into the paper preceding the students response.

Evidence or Judgement

For this discussion, your instructor will divide the class into groups of four to five students. Place yourself in the role of an employee named Tyler Cahill, whose annual evaluation has just been completed. As you review the annual performance evaluation, you believe that it was partly based on judgment and not evidence. However, you realize there are some gaps in your performance. Up to this point, you felt like you had a good working relationship with your manager.

For your initial post, answer the following questions based on the Annual Performance Evaluation document.

What are some examples in the performance evaluation document that are based on judgment and not evidence? In a forthcoming meeting with your manager, what is your plan to address that you believe part of the evaluation was not based on evidence? How will you explain to your manager why it is important for a manager and employee to agree on performance gaps based on evidence? Use the information from the readings for this module to support your plan.
