Many names have been recognized as notable business leaders. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Welch, and Colleen Barrett are all leaders identified for their unique approach to leading people. Choose one of the following business leaders for this assignment: Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Jack Welch, Indira Nooyi, Anne Mulcahy, Howard Schultz, Colleen Barrett, Larry Page, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, Richard Branson, Susan Wojcicki, Marissa Mayer, or Mary Barra. Select one leader and discuss (in 1,250-1,500 words) what you have learned about the selected individual as a leader and the leadership style that leader embodies. Address the following in your discussion: Identify a leader and justify why you selected that particular leader. With what organizations is the leader affiliated? In what industry is the leader recognized? How long was the leader in a leadership position? Discuss which leadership theory best describes the chosen leader’s approach to leading people. What was the leader’s greatest career achievement? Identify a significant career challenge the leader faced and how the challenge was handled. Did the response align more with a managerial role or a leadership role? What power base did the leader use in handling or resolving the challenge? Compare the leadership style used by your selected leader against that of the leader’s successor/predecessor (or competitor in the same industry if a successor/predecessor is not applicable). Was there a difference in the leadership styles? Which leader do you think is more effective and why? Include a personal reflection and identify two to three attributes you hope to emulate or avoid (based on studying this leader) in order to be a successful leader. You are required to use at least two external sources to provide evidence in support of the leadership style displayed by your selected leader. The rationale should be justified; this should not be completed based on an opinion. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a rubric (See attachment). For example, select an adolescent and a senior in late adulthood, or the parent of a newborn and a child in late childhood. Conversationally interview these two people in order to compare what you have learned here in class, through the textbook, lectures, and videos, with their perception of what it is actually like to be in their stage of life. Interviews may be done via phone, Skype, email, etc. Take notes or record (with permission) your interview. Below are some suggestions for your conversation. You do not need to cover all of these topics in your paper, but they will help you shape your discussion. Be sure to note which topics you discuss. PSYC 290 Interview Questions In your write up, tell us the gender, age, identified life stage of development, and cultural identification(s) of the individuals you interviewed. Be sure to maintain each individual’s privacy and confidentiality when asked to do so. Summarize the topics you discussed and share your interviewees’ responses (you may paraphrase and quote). In your paper, after you have shared what the interviewees discussed, share your thoughts on the process of talking with someone about their place in the life span. Explain the social and historical context in which they formulated their theories and highlight the usefulness of their contributions to the field of psychotherapy and counselling. Assessment Task The task is designed to stimulate your interest to explore a psychotherapy pioneer of choice. The essay should be laid out as follows: 1.The biography overview should include basic demographic information and any relevant familial, social and historical contexts. 2. The biography should also chart key moments in the person’s life and/or career, which are relevant to the development of their theories, including key thinkers who have influenced and guided the development of his/her theories. 3. The biography should also include a brief outline of the key concepts that your chosen pioneer has developed and should explain how these are still relevant and influential today. For example, with Rogers, you could highlight the importance of the core conditions, both in his theory and in contemporary psychotherapy. Klein’s work on projection and introjection, or Perls’ empty chair, and so on. Of course you should elaborate much more fully on the pioneer’s work than the examples given here. 4. Finally a paragraph of 200-300 words should focus on the usefulness of the approach developed by the chosen pioneer and should include: the student’s reasons for choosing this pioneer, and what they liked about his or her work, and pin point any limitations to the approach of the chosen pioneer.
