Essay 3OpEd (Opinion Piece)
Revisit the guidelines on Moodle and in your notes about the structure of OpEd writings.
In general, here is a review of the basic Op-Ed format:
Lead paragraph: Try to grab readers right away with your first sentence; make them want to read more. Start with an interesting story or example that encapsulates your point.  Your argument and the issue you are targeting should be stated in this introduction (even if it is at the end of it).
Supporting paragraphs: Now that you’ve stated your point and grabbed readers’ attention, build on your lead with facts, statistics and anecdotes.  For this essay, you will link the sources you mention in your paper.
Wrap it up: In the concluding paragraph, take your argument a step further and leave readers with information about what needs to be done next. If you’re trying to move people to action, be sure to answer the question, “What can I do?” Make the final sentence as compelling as the first one. If you started with an example, bring the story full circle by referencing your original point.

Raunch aesthetics” in Yo! Majesty’s music and performance

Jillian Hernandez explains the feminist and queer teachings of “raunch aesthetics” in Yo! Majesty’s music and performance:
raunch is theorized in my argument as a perverse aesthetic craft. “Perverse” here indicates a flagrant, and explicitly sexual deviation from the normal, and a critical avowal of hypersexuality (Shimizu 2007). The perversity of raunch aesthetics defies dominant regimes of respectable and heteronormative sexual expression, and presents possibilities for marginalized subjects to experience pleasure and affirmation. (Hernandez 90)
Choose a different song and music video (anything that is not by Yo! Majesty), or a non-musical example, to analyze and explain how it uses these ‘raunch aesthetics’ for anti-racist, feminist and queer teachings. Use critical concepts from at least two other course readings to support your analysis.
