This paper is to be able to interpret Deuteronomy 23:19-20 concerning taxes and loans. It should be categorized by 7 sections:
Introduction: Cite, analyze, and critique what at least 3 scholars have said about this particular passage of scripture, state your opinion of the passage and what you will argue about the passage
Text and Translation: Delineate the Passage, the Exegesis must focus on a complete literary, Cite two Modern Committee English Versions of the passage (not a
paraphrase of the passage); however, use the same version through out the
Exegesis. Either in a narrative form, footnotes, or endnotes, deal with any significant
issues related to variants.
Grammatical Criticism and Word Studies: Clarify ambiguous terms in the passage, i.e. proper nouns or phrases, Identify and discuss grammatical constructions in the text that are important for your thesis. Select a handful of terms. Find the Hebrew term for the words that appears in English upon which you want to work, and cite places elsewhere in the HB where these terms are present.
Form Criticism of the Text: Build upon your Outline of the passage and search for and treat the literary artistry in the Passage, e.g., parallelisms, metaphors, inclusios, chiasms,
repetitions, plot, tropes. If you are dealing with a legislation in
Deuteronomy, much of what happens in a Literary-Critical analysis of a text
might not apply to your passage. Who are the characters in this text? Who
speaks in this text? Who is silent in this text? What transpires in this text?
Where does this story take place? Is there a key scene or account in this
story? If so, why is this scene or event so important? Why might this passage be located at this place in Deuteronomy?
Historical Criticism of the Text: Identify and cast light on key events suggested by the passage. Use both biblical and extra-biblical material to cast light on this event.
Socio-Scientific Criticism of the Text: Using the evidence in the passage, proffer a milieu for understanding this passage. The goal here is to identify as much as possible about the features of the society from which the passage might have emerged.
Conclusion: What messages might this text have conveyed to its original
audience, i.e., how might those persons who heard or read it at or
near the time it was produce understood this text. Here you are
dealing with the issue: What text meant?

Please pick and write on ONE of the following four topics:
1.Given your understanding of Jesus’ ministry and themes of preaching, what are the main points of the Beatitudes (Chinese translation: 八福) in Matthew 5:1-12. Also compare it with the shorter version found in Luke 6:20-23, and determine what is Jesus’ main focus in these “blessings” sayings.
2. Choose 3 stories (parables or accounts) from Luke that are related to the Gentiles (non-Jews), and that can also be found in either Matthew, Mark, or John. What are the differences in Luke’s description and emphasis? What can they tell you about the focuses of Luke (and Acts) when it comes to Gospel and the Gentiles?
3. How does Paul use the example of Abraham to explain his theology of faith and salvation? Use at least two passages of Paul (e.g. Galatians 3, Romans 4) to explain the main reasoning of this teaching of Paul.
4. Compare between 1 Corinthians 12-13 and Romans 12 – what does Paul say about the Church? What does he suggest that the believers should see themselves in order for the unity of the Church to be maintained and secured?
Some requirements to pay attention to:
a. Select a theme, and use what you have read in the selected passages to argue for it.
b. Higher marks can be scored if you use more outside references (i.e. in addition to the Bible, such as Tom’s book or my lecture notes).
c. Citation is required, for example:
d. Include a small section of your personal thoughts
e. No plagiarism!! (To be submitted through Turnitin)

The Oil Curse: Discuss what is this “curse” and how developing countries rich in oil can work curtail this “curse,” use case study examples. (use: The Oil Curse by Michael L. Ross as a source for this prompt)
ABSTRACT
It is often that countries that are sitting on oil and their economies depend on the revenue from that oil that they usually end up underdeveloped and worse conditions overall compared to a country who does not rely so heavily on oil. This is known as the oil curse. The concept of the oil curse is not just an idea, it has been revealed many times throughout history, resulting in very similar outcomes in different countries. This paper considers different aspects of oil in the sense of oil production in an enormous size, nontax source, volatility, civil conflict, and how these factors lead countries into the dreaded oil curse. Long-lasting practices and trends in these aspects have often been over-looked and questioned if they have any relation to the oil curse. Overall, the question is, how can countries loaded with oil better manage their resources in order to be sustainable and properly develop. The paper finishes off with an examination of establishments and regulations that a country prospering in oil revenue can look into in order to maintain stability and continue to grow as a country beyond oil production.

1. We discussed in class that full gender equity depends on ideological and structural changes, especially in the way we “do” sports in society. What does this claim mean? What kinds of ideological and structural changes are needed to bring about gender equity?
2. People from the media sometimes deal with male and female athletes in different ways. What are examples of these differences? And how would you advise female athletes who face interviewers and photographers whose approaches are, quite often, grounded in traditional gender ideology? What is the goal underlying your advice?
