Promoting the Opening of a New Library

A new university library will open next month. The $100 million building is an eight-story wonder of glass and steel beams designed by the famous architectural firm BK Skinner and Associates. The library has over 125 commissioned works of art and 2,500 Internet plug-ins for students and their laptops. In addition, the library has several computer labs for students and meeting rooms for university and community organizations. And, in a special coup, author J. K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame will be the guest of honor at the official opening.

Write an online news release about the new library and its planned grand opening.

Second, write an email pitch letter to the local media encouraging them to do feature stories about the new library in advance of the opening.

Measuring Customer Service

Select one transportation company from the list of the http://www.forbes.com/sites/corinnejurney/2016/05/27/2016-global-2000-the-worlds-largest-transportation-companies/#4cf6b7672216
published by Forbes.
Explain how your chosen company’s current logistics and/or supply chain management practices supports each of the four dimensions of customer service. (The company’s website and annual report are often good starting points for your research.)
Assess how the company can strengthen the contribution of each dimension to future gains in profitability and/or customer service with at least two of the four dimensions. Provide two to three examples of how other companies have already done so to support your assessment.

NPR style radio broadcast script on a cool new discovery

1.5 Minute NPR Science Friday Short (for example: http://sciencefriday.com/)

Please find an important paper published between 15 MAY 2020 and 10 DEC 2020 and write a 1.5 minute NPR-type story about it. The paper must be published in a recognized, peer-reviewed journal. It must be biologically-oriented research. Finally, it must be cool, really cool! Your grade will include a “coolness factor.”

On Canvas, you will turn in
a. A PDF copy of the entire paper
b. A PDF copy of your script, with the correct APA (name, year) style reference for the paper

Process control

  1. Applet 9 shows the closed-loop response with PID controller for various order of processes. (No guided tutorial) This applet can select different processes which process parameters can be specified and three PID tuning parameters. If you choose process time constant too large, you cannot see the enough response in a limited time span (Tmax=10). Thus, choose suitable time constant that can show enough response near default value. Also, you can adjust the maximum values of the tuning parameter sliders so that you can change min/max value freely within the range to see the effect of the tuning parameters. (You must enter after modifying the values.) After playing the applet for a while, observe the effect of the PID tuning parameters on polezero location, gain/phase margin change, gain/phase crossover frequency. Then, write a max 3- page report for processes of FOPDT (2/2 Pade) and SOPDT (1/1 Pade). (No figure! Each observation should be listed in a bullet form.
  2. Using Applet 2 (advanced mode), select ‘Hard’ for process nature, find the FOPDT model roughly using ‘Open-loop Step Response (MV)’. (Initial steady-state values for MV and PV are both 0.5) Then, find PID tuning parameters using various tuning relations (C-C, ITAE and IMC) and compare the closed-loop step responses. Also, find ultimate gain and period roughly using P-controller by increasing Kc with ‘Unconstrained MV’ selected, and PID tuning parameters with modified ZN method. Then write a max 3-page report on your observation. (Include 2 to 4 figures maximum and discussion in a bullet form.)
