Death is a subject many people may not like to discuss even though it is as variable as the birthing process. Death is a milestone that each individual approaches in his or her unique way. As individuals enter the dying process, a journey from the known life of this world to the unknown of what lies ahead occurs. Several physical changes may occur within the dying process, such as a reduced appetite and weight loss as bodily functions begin to slow down. Breathing may become slower and more irregular, and the dying person may also sleep more and not respond to external stimuli as she or he once did. This process may be accompanied by various emotional changes and adjustments for family members and friends.
In this Discussion, you analyze the influences of adjustment to death and dying in late adulthood. Also, you will explore the influences of culture and religion in understanding this process.
