Slave Narrative Argument Essay

You must access the Slave Narratives in the Library of Congress’ Collection online.
Choose a state narrative (North Carolina) to specifically examine in order to develop a written document.

Of the SIX (6) Slave Narratives you will cite in your final paper, choose THREE (3) narratives to analyze.

This means you need accounts from three different individuals who participated in telling their stories about slavery from your “chosen” state (North Carolina).  Complete a Document Analysis Worksheet for each of these Narratives by answering all the questions on the document analysis worksheet below.

(Slave Analysis Worksheet–attached)
https://www.archives.gov/files/education/lessons/worksheets/written_document_analysis_worksheet_former.pdf

After carefully reading all the narratives from your chosen state (6 narratives), you will then develop an Argument Essay (3-4 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) related to one of the following entry points:

A.  Conditions of the enslaved population in that state
B.  Resistance tactics of the enslaved populations in that state
C.  Attitudes of the slave-owning class in that state
D.  The stability of slavery as an institution in that state
Your Argument Essay should be written in well developed paragraphs and you must support your inferences, interpretations, conclusions and discussions by citing specific information from the Slave Narratives themselves.  This means you must use “footnotes” to in the text of your essay.  In addition to the slave narratives, which are primary sources, you can supplement your argument by citing from your textbook, videos shown in the class (only those shown to the class), PowerPoint presentations and any other information within your CANVAS course.  No material from “outside” of this course may be used in this assignment.  If you do so, you will lose major points on this assignment.  Follow the instructions.
You are expected to

1.    Develop a good thesis argument claim (statement) for your essay

Your thesis argument claim, should be ONE sentence which explains what your argument is based on your analysis your slave narratives.  This thesis argument is NOT a description of the narratives, it is NOT a statement of fact or some ethereal feeling you have about the narratives.  It is an argument that you are offering based on your examination of the evidence (the narratives). Please use the following template to fit your argument into:

After an analysis of the slave narratives from (whatever state you chose), this essay makes an argument that ____________________________________________________________________.

You must “fit” your argument in the blank space and that will be your argument thesis claim.  The ENTIRE sentence should be put into the Introduction (somewhere in the first two paragraphs) of your final paper and must be underlined OR put in boldface font.  Do not use first person in your thesis or the paper.

2.    Utilize proper citations within the written document [Turabian/Chicago style].  That means FOOTNOTES.

3.    Utilize critical analysis within the written document

4.    Utilize proper mechanics: grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence and paragraph structure.

Climate Action

I already did part 1. I chose Climate change, and already have the two companies chosen. I will attach part 1. Also I will attach a sample that helps with each part that needs to be done. The only thing that needs to be done is part two and it needs to be like the sample provided.  Find a company that is doing something to help address this goal and research what it is doing. You will consider this your Exemplar Company. You want to find a company that others can use as a benchmark.  The purpose of researching this company is to find ideas of what is being done in a given area or industry. Ideas that you can use in providing recommendations to your Case Company (see Stage 2 for details).

The deliverable should provide evidence that you have researched the Exemplar Company. This should include a list of at least 5 references that you will use in your report that provide information about either the company or the UN goal you have chosen. This can be any combination of references, but at least one has to be about a company or organization that is already doing something to achieve the goal. Meaning you can have 4 about the goal and 1 about the company. Or 4 about the company and 1 about the goal. The purpose of this process if to start the research process for your final report. Please see the Stage 3 requirements to give you a better idea of what the report requires to help guide your research.

You are not required to provide a write up. References should be provided in APA format. For details on APA formatting see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/purdue_owl.html (Links to an external site.).

Part 1C (1%): Find a company that you would like to help improve. This should be a company or organization that is not doing enough to address your chosen UN topic and that could benefit from what is being done by the Exemplar Company. This will be considered your Case Company. In your final report you will be providing recommendations to this company.

The deliverable is to list the company. Please note, however, that once you pick a company you cannot change it. If you change it, you will have points deducted. You need to be sure you can use the company for your final report.

Stage Two (Worth 4% of your grade – Due Module 12 – Nov 15)

This stage requires you to complete two parts.

Part 2A (2%): At this point you will have researched your UN Sustainability goal and have read about at least one company (Your exemplar Company) that is doing something to try and achieve that goal.  Now you need to think about how you are going to help your case company start moving toward the goal. Based on your research what things can your case company do to move toward achieving the US Sustainability goal.

The deliverable for this section would be an outline of your final report. Provide an outline of the report that has brief descriptions of each section you will have for the final report. The purpose of this outline is to ensure that you are on track to have the project completed.

You want this to be as polished as possible. So include a title page, a table of contents, page numbers, and references.

Violations of the First Amendment

This is what I told my professor about my paper:
The topic I am choosing for my paper is Free Speech, but more specifically
violations of free speech. The points I plan to bring up in my paper are: how public
schools practices and punishments conflict with the first amendment, employee
mistreatment and wrongful termination, police violence towards protestors. My counterargument will talk about how the guilty parties justify
their actions against the amendment; talking about questions when it comes to age and
position.

This essay should be about the Dust Bowl book written by Donald Worster, 25th Anniversary Edition.

The Dust Bowl essay must accurately identify the books main argument and evaluate the books overall effectiveness (how effective was the author at supporting/proving the book’s main argument and why). This requires a brief summary of the books content and main themes and extensive discussion of the books strengths and weaknesses as a scholarly work of history. The essay must include a clearly identifiable and specific thesis statement. This thesis statement must take a direct and specific position on the books overall effectiveness. The thesis statement must appear as the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. Your papers thesis must be supported throughout the essay with specific evidence from the book. The use of additional sources is not allowed. The paper must be structured as an essay.
