The NYPD Needs to Change a Lot More Than Its Commissioner

For your online article assignment # 2, well continue reviewing articles written by Brooklyn College Professor Alex Vitale for the online news outlet The Nation. The article in question, analyzes the attempts to reform New York Citys Police Department, its methods and its rank-and-file resistant to change. Again, your job is to examine the articles strengths and weaknesses in terms of what the article is attempting to accomplish. As you know, your review should include a summary of the article, your own opinion and critical evaluation, and a personal reflection. Any analysis included should help readers to assess the articles value without having to necessarily read the article themselves. To write a good review, you first need to read the article twice, at least. The assignment begins even before you start it. For your convenience, a rubric will be available for download and can be found on the assignment files.

Directions:

– Read the article

– Review rubric for directions.

– Write a three (3) pages article review.

Analysis of research finding

This section is based on the five scholarly articles you identified. The purpose of this section is to summarize and synthesize your ideas across the articles you read not to explain or discuss each individually! By the end of this section, you are telling the reader what we know and may still not know about the topic. In this section you will highlight the major research results across all five articles and describe the similarities and differences among the them. This means you will discuss what results they had in common and where they had differences in them. Note patterns of similarities and try to explain the differences between their results. If one article stood out to you for some reason, or was the most helpful, say so and why. However, do not get into discussing one or any articles in great detail. You will cite all studies, but not necessarily discuss the each individually.

5 paragraphs (themes) – also focus on the difference not just similarities.
