I would like you to do a traditional literature review. These documents are helpful so please review these documents. FAQ: Do I critique the methodology of all of my research articles? In the sources that I have posted re: tips for literature reviews, some of them focus on methodology/identifying issues with methods. This is more relevant if you are writing a research proposal or writing your undergraduate thesis – which as far as I know, most of you are not ?? So no, the goal of the literature review is not to deconstruct methodology; rather it is to highlight the state of knowledge in that area (i.e. with respect to the small collection of papers you have gathered). Some general description of procedure is necessary if plan on talking at length about particular articles. In order for the reader to understand the findings properly, I must know a little bit about how the study was conducted. This is a good example of what I mean by ‘contextualizing’ information. You want to prime the reader with sufficient (not overwhelming) detail about procedure and participant sample so that I understand how to interpret the finding(s) that you have/are about to write/written about. What is appropriate is that you summarize any concerns or shortcomings (methodologically or theoretically) after you’ve summarized the literature. This provides a natural and logical flow into future directions toward the end of your paper … In terms of what to report re: findings. Like the sample literature review that is posted, it is great to give me some information (e.g. 40% said this; the correlation was modest at .34); however, do not write about f-values, p-values, beta-values, confidence intervals, multilevel modeling, Cohen’s D, and other statistically technical terms in the literature review for this paper. Keep in mind it is a term paper, not for your dissertation. I hope this is helpful. Please email if you have further questions.
