The integumentary and skeletal systems work together as the body’s first line of defense. As we age, cellular processes slow down and our defenses start to falter. Your task is to explore the functional relationship between these two systems and examine why osteoporosis is a multifactorial disease.
Instructions
Imagine that you have been asked to write a scientific article to be published in a prominent journal on the topic of osteoporosis as a multifactorial disease. Prepare a written paper of at least 1000 words on the following bullet points:
What is the functional relationship between the integumentary and skeletal systems?
How does failure to maintain homeostasis in the integumentary system affect bone formation and remodeling processes? Be sure to discuss how the different types of bone cells respond to different factors (e.g., ions, hormones, cellular signaling molecules, etc.) and what the driving force behind maintaining homeostasis in the bone remodeling process.
Describe the pathogenesis of osteoporosis and explain why it is considered a multifactorial disease.
How do current therapies address these failures to maintain homeostasis and ameliorate the effects of osteoporosis?
Your paper should be formatted as a proper research paper with an introduction and conclusion. Do not simply follow the bullet points above, but really think about what you have learned and how that relates to other material we have covered, and knowledge you have from other courses you may have taken. The Research and Report assignments in this course are capstone assignments for each module. Use the following formula when completing the analysis portion:

1. Describe concept 1 in your own words (using the Weekly Learning Resources and discussions – feel free to read ahead). You are not required to use outside additional sources for this assignment.  You should be referencing relevant information from the Weekly Learning Resources and material from the Weekly Discussions. Be sure to use appropriate APA citations (both in-text and full references for the references page).
2. Discuss how concept 1 is found in your movie of choice.
3. Describe at least three examples from the movie that show this concept.
1-4 should comprise at least 1/2 of a single-spaced page for each concept.  You will be analyzing five separate concepts. You may be over, but not under the half-page requirement per concept. 
Please note that a concept is a whole idea, such as relationship self-disclosure, issues of self, listening. Thus, the five forms of listening would count as ONE concept, not five. The five conflict management strategies would count as one concept, not five.
Conclusion (1/4 page minimum):  (worth 5 points)
Your conclusion should provide closure, share lessons learned, and a concluding summary.
Reference page (worth 5 points)
A reference page in proper APA format should be presented at the end of your paper. This is in addition to the in-text citations that should be found throughout the analysis portion of your submission. 
Submit your essay as a Word .doc, .docx, or .rtf attachment only in its assignment folder under the Assignments link in your classroom by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday of Week 7. Do not submit your assignment in .pdf, .Gdoc, .Pages, or other format. See the Course Schedule in the syllabus for the exact final due date for this assignment.
This entire paper should be a minimum of 3 full single-spaced pages using a size 12 Times New Roman font.  Again may exceed the page length, but your submission should not be under 3 full pages.
