Reflection Paper #3

For this reflection paper, I want you to critically reflect on and apply the content from the metacognition portion of the class to your own learning strategies and also how to facilitate this in others.  As metacognitive skills are often not explicitly taught, they are often skills that students either have or don’t and can have a big impact on academic success and attainment.

First, describe the metacognitive skill(s) that you have acquired throughout your life, how you acquired them, and how they have served you (either well or poorly).  Then, I want you to describe how you would approach teaching metacognitive skills in a learning situation to facilitate student success.  This can either be a general view of how to promote metacognition OR can be a specific example (i.e., how to help a student who keeps studying “really hard” for tests and can’t figure out why he keeps getting D’s).

Please be sure to use at minimum 3 peer reviewed articles to support your points.

Cultural Geography

Instructions
After exploring academic articles and some areas of research within the intersecting topics of Geography & Identity, now its time to give ourselves a road map for the larger Research Essay.

Choose TWO different topics within the field of Cultural Geography. Try to pick things youre interested in or that are relevant to your life. These could be areas of exploration (I want to know more about the minority groups on the island of Mindanao. Id like to see how downtown urban core communities evolve over time.) or questions youre wondering about and genuinely dont know the answer to (Why are there so many German speakers in rural southern Missouri? How does language use in East Africa influence local identities?). The key component here is genuine curiosity. Youll be spending time with these topics/questions, so choose carefully. Dont feel like you have to have fully formed arguments at this point. Were fine for the moment with lines of inquiry, things were curious about.

Do you have your topics formulated? Good. Great. Now narrow them. Narrow them again. Keep narrowing your topics until you get down to one or two central questions or ideas for each. Spend time on some initial research. Make sure your topics are complex, researchable, and interesting to you (this will come through in the writing). Cultural Geography encompasses a lot, so you only have yourself to blame if the topics dont interest you. Well spend some time honing topic to make sure theyre appropriate for the assignment. By the end of thinking, researching, and narrowing, you should have two initial theses/research questions that would be productive for the Research Essay.

This assignment largely consists of the thinking and planning stages for the Research Essay. While this may not seem as outwardly productive, planning your project and topic is vital to building a smooth paper. It would be extremely difficult to complete such a large research and writing project without organization and planning. Take this assignment seriously and youll have a much easier time later in the quarter.

After formulating TWO possible topics, write the following responses for BOTH:

1. Write out your initial topic. Distill your critical idea down to a sentence or two. You could have something as specific as an organized thesis statement, or you could simply have an area you’d like to explore. (This can always change later. You’re not bound by it.)

2. Write a paragraph (150-200 words) that serves as an initial abstract. While you dont have to have a solid argument at this point, what do you think could be argued about this topic? Whats interesting to you about this subject? What dont you know that youd like to explore? Based on your initial findings, what is the research like on this topic? How can you try to add something new?

3. Build a research plan (in 100-150 words). Where can you find appropriate sources? What do you need those sources to do? (Support particular points, lay out the background, argue against, etc.). What specific aspects of this topic do you think you could adequately address given the length/time/source requirements? Write out a rough schedule encompassing the planning, research, reorganizing, and writing stages.

I have attached examples of topics used in the past but you MUST NOT use any, please come up with original topics.

Film Radio

While a commercial network sitcom airs for a 30-minute period, the actual program time (length of scripted content) is only 20-22 minutes.  It varies from network-to-network.  It’s even less time with shows in syndication.  Writers have to take into consideration where to have certain scenes end and pick up between commercials.  As they say, ‘time is of the essence’ with regard to this critical timing.  If a show is produced and recorded which runs over it’s allotted time, the network will ‘kick’ it back to the production company to trim down the time.  It has to be exactly what the network requires.

When you think about it, this is where the networks are at a disadvantage over streaming services like Netflix since they do not have that time restraint that the networks must adhere to each hour of the day.  If a Netflix shows runs over or under the a specified time, it is not really a problem.  Since I work on both a traditional network show and a Netflix show, I see this by the number of pages on a script.

For this assignment, pick a 30-minute sitcom of your choice.  It must be on a commercial network or local station. Do not view a program on Netflix or any commercial-free venues.  It can be a current show in production or an older one now in off-network syndication.

If you do not have a TV or cable, just watch a program on one of the network’s streaming websites.  When shown online, they include commercials which will satisfy the elements for this paper.

The requirements for the assignment are at the bottom of this page.  You will identify both the ‘A’ and ‘B’ story lines although you do not have to give a complete summary of the material.  More importantly, identify what the storylines are about.  Inventory the various ‘stop sets’ (commercial breaks) and by noting the advertising, which age groups do you think the sponsors are looking for.  Summarize your findings and draw a conclusion.

Tesla Inc intrapreneurial opportunity

Considering your assessment in Module Six on the capabilities and limitations of your company, identify and assess an intrapreneurial opportunity within your company and assess its impact with respect to both the level of effort and resources needed and the potential benefits to the organization. Be sure to consider the appropriate types of analysis discussed throughout this course.

I have attached the rubric as well. r
