Formal Analysis of an Art
Your essay should include an introduction (with a clear thesis statement), several paragraphs of well-organized visual evidence that supports your thesis, and a conclusion. The essay will be evaluated for the clarity and strength of its thesis, its organization, its use of specific visual evidence, its persuasiveness, and its creativity and precision of language.
Questions to consider include when trilobites emerged and how long they survived, how many different species of trilobites existed and what evidence do we have of this. Where on earth did they live and how do we know, what type of rock evidence do we find today that are representative of this interior seaway, etc.
Imagine you are an administrator for the school district. In light of the Columbus controversy, you have been assigned to write a set of guidelines for teaching about Columbus in the district’s elementary and junior high schools. These guidelines will explain official policy to parents and teachers in teaching children about Columbus and the significance of his voyages. They will also draw on arguments made on both sides of the controversy, as well as historical facts on which both sides agree.
The purpose of this assignment is to explain the official policy about teaching Columbus’ voyages to parents and teachers.
