Humanitarian intervention is today among the most debated concepts in international
relationships. Explain what this debate consists of and critically discuss when – and possibly whether – it should be opened up for humanitarian intervention.
Essay Layout ( it is very important that you follow this in detail):
– Explain what humanitarian intervention is and briefly why the phenomenon often receives criticism. Here I would then account for humanitarian intervention in the form of R2P (which is a way the UN has formalized and justified humanitarian interventions).

What you can do then is look at the guidelines the UN has laid down for R2P (The right to protect), which states when states’ responsibility to protect obliges them to intervene in another state.
-Then you can discuss this with reference to relevant cases such as Libya – our only large-scale R2P intervention – and how that situation ended despite the good intentions.
