Marketing Strategy Evaluation-Redfin

ASSIGNED COMPANY:REDFIN-Real Estate Brokerage

This assignment, while similar to a marketing plan, is somewhat different.  Marketing plans tend to be very detailed documents with very specific objectives and are usually replete with primary and secondary research or plans to collect data from research.  This assignment is an evaluation of the firm based primarily on strategic marketing fundamentals.

Since you are not a worker for your assigned company, it is impossible to know what their exact marketing strategy may be.  (Unless you call and ask.)  But, since they are publicly traded, by law they have to have lots of information available for investors.  Find as much information as you can about the companies.  Places to look include their websites (both customer facing websites and the investor relations web pages).  Independent analysis and research done by investment firms, the media, and general market analysis. For most of your companies, there are large amounts of information that you can find on the internet.

After you have thoroughly researched the company, their markets, their competitors, etc., you can begin to create a description of the firms marketing strategy.  Really, you can include anything that you might find in a marketing plan, but some more specific things that you may want to include are:

1. Situation Analysis (about 2 pages)

-Product/Service Description

-Market Analysis

-Competitive Analysis/SWOT

2. Marketing Plan (about 4 pages)

-Target market(s)

-Positioning Strategy

-Perceptual Mapping

-Brand Name and Logo

-Slogan

-A description of Marketing Strategies

-Multi-Channel Integration Strategy

-E-Commerce (Web Site, blogs, social networks, etc.)

-Direct

-Retail

-Advertising/PR Strategy

-Pricing Strategy

3. Final Evaluation  (about 1 page)

Make a determination on whether or not this firm (based on its marketing strategies, its current or future product(s) and the competition) has or is likely to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.

Further, look for particular characteristics of the market.  For Instance, many of the firms that I have chosen to assign I believe will benefit from long-term secular trends in the marketplace.  Secular trends means that the market type in which the firm operates looks favorable for the next five years or more and that the firm would not be affected by a market downturn.

The Taming of the Shrew and Ten Things I Hate About You, a Comparative Analysis and Historical Discussion

You have already written a portion of the essay, but I need you to add  he Bedford Companion section.

The Taming of the Shrew and Ten Things I Hate About You, a Comparative Analysis and Historical Discussion

With these two productions standing in for Renaissance and Modern attitudes towards masculinity, femininity, youth and sexuality, write an essay describing some key historical differences that you believe are evident in these films.

Since you inhabit a post-Modern world barely a generation removed from the one represented in Ten Things I Hate About You, your own powers of observation may, in this instance, be assumed to be as credible. However, since you dont inhabit the Renaissance, which is represented rather faithfully by the Italian director Zeffirelli, you will need some evidence from that historical period to make your case.

To that end, turn to the primary sources from The Bedford Companion to Shakespeare that we were assigned for last week. You will find them between pages 278-294. Choose two of these, and quote directly from them in order to provide evidence for the claims you make about Renaissance attitudes toward these issues in Taming of the Shrew. In other words, describe how certain pre-modern attitudes toward masculinity, femininity, marriage, sexuality, courtship, etc., are reflected in Shakespeares play. (Dont try to cover all of the issues the Bedford primary sources raise; just focus on a couple of them.)

Having identified aspects of Renaissance culture and society that are reflected in Shakespeare, then turn to 10 Things I Hate About You. With reference to specific scenes from Jungers film, describe how the patterns of belief you identified in Shakespeare are different from our own cultural practices. If you wish to talk about any similarities that you think remain observable in both Shakespeares time and our own, feel free to do so. This is what historical analysis is all about: the dynamics of social continuity and societal change.

True, free private search on a large scale is impossible to offer at present. We have tried for years now to obtain another private search partnership since Google annulled ours, but it simply isnt possible. Its cost us hundreds of thousands of dollars (even with the donations from thousands of you) over the past few years to keep Epic going. The expense is so great at our scale we couldnt afford to launch our mobile browsers even though they’ve been ready and are fantastic. Epic protects hundreds of thousands of people around the world everyday. Our encrypted proxy/VPN is powered by hundreds of servers in eight different countries. To keep Epic an ongoing project, we had to become sustainable via our search options. Epic will now have two search options: free search by Yahoo & paid private search via EpicSearch.in.

When you use the default Yahoo-powered search in Epic, youll get better search results and support our mission including more frequent releases and hundreds more servers for our encrypted proxy/VPN. All searches sent to Yahoo are encrypted for your privacy and security. According to their requirements, Yahoo search does bypass both our proxy and adblock. Upon ad click in Yahoo search, the proxy and adblock remain disabled for several seconds. Their goal is to insure the integrity of their search ad marketplace. Due to their policies, a few other Yahoo sites including Techcrunch, Engadget, Autoblog, HuffPo and AOL bypass our adblock. No other sites bypass our adblock or proxy so Epic works almost entirely as it always has except in respect to the Yahoo sites.

We believe it is impossible at present to offer honest, free private search. Weve received many requests to support so-called private search engines such as Startpage, DuckDuckGo and others. To our knowledge there are no exceptions to Google/Bing mandates to share a users IP address and or location both to retrieve search ads and upon search ad click. It is misleading to claim to be private if youre sharing your users data with Google/Bing. Despite multiple requests, they refuse to explain to us how they work.

EpicSearch sends only your search query to a third-party to retrieve search results, never any IP or other personal information. It continues to be the only reasonably true, private, search engine in the world. To sustain it and keep it ad-free, we will soon charge a nominal $2.50 a month fee. All Epic users can use built-in Yahoo search for free.

Thank you for your support of Epic. Youve kept us going as well as helped change the entire tech industry focus. When Epic launched over five years ago, the vast majority of people in technology laughed at us saying nobody cares about privacy. Today, no one is laughing. Companies like Apple have launched massive hundred million dollar ad campaigns around privacy (more marketing than truth in the case of the iPhone — this changes with the upcoming Epic for iOS launch :-). Were thrilled to now be on a sustainable path to soon serve millions of users everyday. Privacy is serious and it matters. This is Epic!
