Vector-borne Diseases

Go through this interactive on the link: ” https://www.biointeractive.org/classroom-resources/stopping-mosquitoborne-disease ”

ONLY 1-2 PARAGRAPH MAX, NO NEED TO BE ONE FULL PAGE.

This interactive describes things to consider when creating an intervention strategy for mosquito-borne illnesses, using Dengue Fever as a case study. After going through it, reflect on the stakeholders involved in the intervention strategies. Address one of the following questions for this post:
Do some further research to find out why the intervention for Dengue Fever was not consistently used (the video briefly describes, but what exactly was happening?). Describe the authority of the sources that you find and how that might bias the information explained in the sources.
Choose another vector-borne disease and an intervention case study. Find some sources that explain the effectiveness of the intervention. Describe their explanations of the effectiveness of the intervention, listing the stakeholders referenced in the explanation, the authority of the sources, and how the information may be biased.

Ethical Dimension

Read the case study located in section 3.8 of your textbook, Case 4: Black-White Infant Mortality: Disparities, Priorities, and Social Justice.

Step 1: Analyze the Ethical Dimensions of the Public Health Issue and Context

You are considering shifting resources from maternal-child health programs to programs for more members of the community.  If black-white disparities in birth outcomes continue, but the overall health of the community improves, have you met your ethical obligations as a health department?
Is there something about infant mortality that makes it special in consideration of fairness? Do we need to think about what is fair in a different way because infants are involved?
Should the role of race and racism in infant mortality impact how we set priorities and allocate resources? Why or why not?
Step 2: Formulate Alternative Courses of Action and Evaluate their Ethical Dimensions

There are 3 choices suggested in this case study:

Maintain funding for maternal-child health care
Shift funding from maternal-child health care to programs that impact the health of the larger community
Involve the community in deciding what the priorities are and how resources should be allocated
What are the ethical dimensions of each option?
If the community gets involved, who should speak for the community?

Crime and Deviance

Please compose a reflective discussion piece on the prompt below for anywhere between 250-300 words.

If I would argue that George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are victims of police (as a social institution) brutality, a form of everyday deviance, what would be my sociological argument? Important: Please DO NOT share your personal comments. Rather include sociological analysis as well as ongoing mass protests nationwide. PLEASE USE any of the terms that may support your arguments, such as rational choice, differential association, labeling theory, social control, anomie, and social disorganization, strain theory, and conflict theory.

A high quality response would choose one or two of these theories/concepts and explain why it/they would support an argument for police brutality as a common form of deviance. In other words, how would a sociologist explain why police brutality is or can be considered routine (regardless of your own opinion on the matter)?
