Increase of Cost of Healthcare as Stressor on Non-Profit Medical Institution Funded by Medicaid

Even after the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, affordable healthcare remains a SLANG IS NOT TO BE USED IN GRADUATE LEVEL PAPERS for many citizens. In 2018, it was estimated that about 28 million people have no insurance (CITATION?). In 2019, 56% of the population reported to have undergone a financial hardship related to medical expenses. The Gallup Poll conducted in 2019 revealed that a quarter of cancer patients were delaying payment due to financial constraints. Similarly, over 25% of the patients in American cannot access medical care due to the inability to afford healthcare (Chang et al., 2016).

The irony is the US is the biggest spender in the healthcare sector among the developed countries. A 2017 analysis conducted by the UN reported that the country was ranked 24th in the world for countries on course to achieve its healthcare goals. In actuality, the situation on the ground is different from the statistics being disseminated. The 3.7 trillion dollars spent on healthcare within the last financial year is estimated to grow by 5%. This projected analysis means that the overall medical cost for patients who are insured and uninsured will not be reduced any time soon, at least not for the next year. OMITTED PURPOSE STATEMENT. THIS SHOULD BE ONLY ONE PARAGRAPH.

Impact on the Organization

While the number of people with insurance has been steadily decreasing, the mix between increased medical cost and the number of people with access to medical care has led to the stressing of medical institutions (CITATION?). Increased medical costs lead to a myriad of issues, which in turn has led to the stressors of the healthcare systems. THE REQUIREMENT WAS TO DESCRIBE THE ISSUE AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ORGANIZATION WHERE YOU ARE EMPLOYED – OMITTED. OMITTED THE QUANTITATIVE DATA FROM THE ORGANIZATION ABOUT THE ISSUE – WHAT IS THE PROBLEM STATEMENT IN ONE SENTENCE?

TOO LONG

Childers, Maggard-Gibbons, ANDNuckols, (2019), A comparison of costs, IDENTIFIED 10% of noninstitutionalized patients who sort medical services and incurred significant medical expenses paid for 75% of the national medical costs. This statistic means that a small number of people who had no intention of spending on healthcare due to various reasons ended up paying the bulk of the medical expenses incurred by the nationNO SLANG IN GRADUATE LEVEL PAPERS this means that the patients with lower to no income paid more in medical costs.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION – SHOULD BE ONLY ONE PRAGRAPH AND NONE OF THIS IS VALIDATED WITH REFERENCES

According to Kim ANDPark (2019), in Improving the Prediction of High-Cost Health Care Users with Medical Check-Up Data, the use of technology is the best option. Ideally, the best situation would be where the highest earners pay more in medical costs while the lowest earners pay less. While it would be unfair to overcharge patients simply because they earn more, other metrics can be established. For instance, the hospital can consider doing away with zero medical fees for institutionalized patients.

OMITTED AT LEAST ONE TO TWO SENTENCES ON HOW OTHER ORGANIATIONS ARE ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE

Strategies COMES AFTER THE LIT REVIEW

There is a need for the organization to find alternative means of funding its expenses to enable it to provide medical cover to its intended patients. The organization leadership ought to consider additional sources of revenue apart from the traditional donors and over-reliance on Medicaid. The first option would be to create a billing system that can determine if a person can afford the medical bill. The wealthy patients would be billed at a higher rate while other low-income patients would be charged according to their gross income. Additionally, patients who fall within a low-income bracket will be placed a payment plan that is flexible to encourage payment of outstanding bills (Chang et al., 2016).

Conclusion

The consistent increasing cost of healthcare is inimical to the wellbeing of the economy. As seen in the data provided on high medical costs and how it acts as a stressor in healthcare, the lowest-earning demographic are paying higher medical bills. While more strategies can be implemented to ensure affordable care to low- income and unfunded patients, there is a need to review how non-profit organizations serve this demographic group and how billing is conducted. SHOULD BE ONE PARAGRAPH THAT IS VALIDATED WITH REFERENCES.

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks of Tomorrow (1959).

The term “knowledge worker” was first coined by management consultant and author Peter Drucker in his book, The Landmarks of Tomorrow (1959). Drucker defined knowledge workers as high-level workers who apply theoretical and analytical knowledge, acquired through formal training, to develop products and services. Does this sound familiar?

Nurses are very much knowledge workers. What has changed since Drucker’s time are the ways that knowledge can be acquired. The volume of data that can now be generated and the tools used to access this data have evolved significantly in recent years and helped healthcare professionals (among many others) to assume the role of knowledge worker in new and powerful ways.

In this Assignment, you will consider the evolving role of the nurse leader and how this evolution has led nurse leaders to assume the role of knowledge worker. You will prepare a PowerPoint presentation with an infographic (graphic that visually represents information, data, or knowledge. Infographics are intended to present information quickly and clearly.) to educate others on the role of nurse as knowledge worker.

Reference: Drucker, P. (1959). The landmarks of tomorrow. New York, NY: HarperCollins Publishers.

To Prepare:

Review the concepts of informatics as presented in the Resources.

McGonigle, D., & Mastrian, K. G. (2018). Nursing informatics and the foundation of knowledge  (4th ed.). Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning.

Sweeney, J. (Feb, 2017). Healthcare Informatics. Online Journal of Nursing Informatics, 21(1).

Reflect on the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Consider how knowledge may be informed by data that is collected/accessed.

The Assignment:

Explain the concept of a knowledge worker.

Define and explain nursing informatics and highlight the role of a nurse leader as a knowledge worker.

Develop a simple infographic to help explain these concepts.

Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses.

Final Research Paper: Disease & Nutrition

Signature Assignment Details

Part I The Diet

Include the following in Part I:

• Criterion 1: Determine if the person’s diet is deficient or in excess of CHO, PRO, and fat

and explain why.

• Criterion 2: Explain in detail how the person’s diet meets or does not meet the RDA for

five or more micronutrients.

Part II Disease and Nutrition

Include the following in Part II:

• Criterion 1: Explain how the person’s diet would affect the patient’s disease symptoms

and progression. Provide a minimum of three examples of how specific foods affect the

disease pathophysiology. Provide examples of foods the person should avoid, and those

he/she should consume.

• Criterion 2: Explain how food interacts with the medications this patient takes. What are

the nutrient-related side effects of the medication? What are the nutrient restrictions and

recommendations for the medications?

o Example: Iron supplements cause constipation, so people are

advised to increase fiber foods; however, if a person is taking fiber

with iron, the fiber will reduce the absorption of the iron thus

decreasing the effectiveness of the iron.

Part III Patient Education

Include the following in part III:

• Criterion 1: Calculate the following for the patient: BMI, BMR, CHO, PRO, and fat

needs and any other relevant calculations that will help you develop a nutritional plan for

your patient.

• Criterion 2: Develop an evidence-based nutritional education plan with three SMART

goals for your patient. Provide specific nursing strategies and examples for the patient,

and consider all aspects of the patient’s lifestyle.
