Wed all like to be more effective in reaching our goals, and according to behaviorists, the way to improve our effectiveness is by rewarding ourselves for the little steps that take us closer and closer to those desirable outcomes.

The focus on this unit is entirely on answering the metaphysical question, “What is autism?” We need to know what this concept “autism” means so that we can use the term correctly and so that we can know when the term is being used incorrectly. We are going to start this unit by looking at the history of autism, and the most important early theories of autism developed by Kanner, Asberger, Lovaas and Bettelheim. Then we are going to critically analyze important contemporary theories developed by Uta Frith, Lorna Wing and Simon Baron-Cohen. There are two- sub units for the paper that I will provide the material. a. You are not writing the Great American Novel. Get right to the point in identifying/explaining the key ideas, analyzing the relevant assigned readings, and discussing your own conclusion on the matter. No works cited or bibliography pages are necessary. To reference a passage from an article, use parenthetical citations like this: (Murphy, page 173). That include the last name of the author of the article and the paper number. To cite a court case, do this: (Smith v Wisconsin, page 117). If this was a law class and you had access to the full court case you’d have to cite the court page notes, but you don’t need to worry about that for this class. If you simply cannot stop yourself from citing a source not assigned in this class (perhaps something you found online, or read for another class), then you have to provide a more complete citation: the web page URL, or the name of the book or journal article, author, publisher, year of publication and most importantly, the page(s) number(s). You can provide this information in a footnote or endnote.
