Language analysis

Research and select an endangered or moribund language (doesn’t matter how many speakers), and write a 2-3 page paper profiling it. Your paper should include the following basic information:

1) Name of the language.

2) Language family.

3) Geographical location.

4) Number of speakers.

3) Factors affecting its endangerment.

4) Attempts (or lack thereof) made in revitalizing/preserving/reviving/recording the language before it vanishes.

Finally, I would like you to reflect on this particular language. What makes it unique? What will be lost when/if the language disappears? In your opinion, what are the ethical quandaries of attempting to revitalize this language? In other words, is this a language “worth saving”? Can it be saved? In order to receive full credit, you must demonstrate a solid understanding of the socio-cultural and linguistic context of your chosen language. It is not enough to simply list the information I am asking for in items 1-4; you must also show that you know something about the language and its speakers.

Communication techniques that can be used to improve employee trust and engagement.

Compare and contrast two communication techniques that can be used to improve employee trust and engagement. Feel free to use the channels or techniques discussed in “Communication Provides Foundation for Being a Best Place to Work” by Kathleen Skidmore-Williams—an article that is located in the Unit IV Required Reading section—or feel free to research your own.

Your assignment should include the components below:

Explain why communication is essential in an organization.
Explain the ways that effective communication improves employee trust and engagement. Focus on comparing/contrasting two types of channels or techniques (e.g., on-site meetings, employee surveys, workshops).
Explain the types of situations where each channel or technique would be most effective. Provide examples and facts for your audience. Avoid simply offering an opinion; rely on valid, academic research.

Sociological Analysis Memo;Health Care System.

About the Sociological Analysis Memo: In the second module of each week you will write a 3-page analysis on various social factors in health and illness. This assignment is designed to give you the opportunity to develop a sociological analysis of some aspect of health, illness, or healing. In addition, it allows you to practice creativity and agency in connecting the course material to an issue of your choosing that hopefully interests you. The prompt and directions for each memo will be listed under the corresponding section on D2L. After choosing your focus for the memo and researching the topic, follow the outline provided in the directions to write your memo.

Memo 1 Topic: Sociological Analysis of a Problem or Issue in our Health Care System.

For this paper option, you will need to identify a social problem in our health care system, such as health care reform, the crisis in funding medicare or medicaid, education and training health care professionals, rising drug prices, advances in medical technology, a specific type of bias in doctor-patient interactions, etc. Your assignment is to conduct background research on your issue and analyze it from a societal level perspective. The emphasis in your paper should be on analyzing the social forces which are contributing to the problem or which create barriers to making changes in our health care system.

• Page 1– General introduction to your health care system problem. Describe what the nature of the problem is, provide data to illustrate why it is a problem, and explain why society should be concerned about it.

• Page 2 – Identify the major social forces or social structural conditions which are contributing to the problem and explain the nature of their influence. You may also wish to discuss societal level efforts to address the problem and how social forces or social structural conditions may be making it difficult to make changes to address the problem you identified.

• Page 3 – Discuss the social implications of your observations. What social, policy, or medical responses would be appropriate or are needed to ameliorate the problem you identified? What policies or interventions do you think are still needed? What is the likelihood that our society (or the societies you studied, if not the United States ) can respond in ways you describe?

Format: After researching your topic, you will write a memo or “report” on your findings. Written memos are to be at least 3 pages in length (not including references), double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Cambria font with 1-inch margins and using a bibliographic formatting of choice (Harvard, APA, ASA, MLA). I expect these to be concise and organized demonstrations of your topic and medical sociological concepts of the module and/or semester so far. Connect back to the course readings and PowerPoints in addition to at least 3 outside sources that focus on your chosen topic. I expect that you proofread these memos carefully before submission as I will deduct points for spelling errors, grammatical errors and incorrect citations or formatting. I suggest that you find a highly literate friend to proofread your weekly memo or utilize the resources at the UA writing center. This should go through a minimum of 1 revision after the first draft. Collectively, these are worth 21% of your grade. Be resourceful and use the many online resources available to format your citations (citethisforme.com, citation managers). Excellence in written communication is essential for your ongoing success as a student and professional. Like any skill, it takes practice and revision.

In the comment section of your memo upload, highlight two areas they are proud of and two areas where they would like feedback. This allows me to give focused attention to the areas that are most important to you and make the feedback process as meaningful as possible.
