Regional Profile13: Portugal: Lisbon and the Algarve

Assignment: Please watch the following video on Portugal. This is the second of two that deal with this country. Please follow the same procedures that we have used for the other assignments of this type.

What I am looking for is this:

Prove that you watched the entire video(s) carefully by including notes from all sections of it (from beginning to end). If in doubt, add MORE details. Err on the side of caution, but use your best judgement. You do NOT need to write down everything you hear!
Make note of important PLACES, DATES, PEOPLE, etc. from EACH PLACE THAT YOU VISIT {Tangier, Gibraltar, Ronda etc.} Make sure the importance of the item is clearly stated (i.e., dont just write a random name/date/fact.)
PLEASE USE COMPLETE SENTENCES. You might have to pause the video to do this part, but it will help me.
You are welcome to submit handwritten notes that are scanned in and attached. You may also type them directly into the textbox for this assignment.
You MUST include a brief concluding paragraph outlining which place from the video you would most like to visit. It can be a city, a museum, or any other attraction.
Points will be deducted for VAGUE, INCOMPLETE, UNINTELLIGIBLE, or UNREADABLE responses. This is an unstructured, fun, and easy assignment, but the onus is on you to make it readable and understandable.
Note: Do not under any circumstances use parts or all of the transcript for this video as your submission. Taking notes is NOT the same as transcribing the video and you are not being asked to write down every word you hear. If you do this, I will assume you took the material from a transcript and at a minimum I will assign a zero for that grade. [This might seems harsh, but it happened seven times last semester so I want to be crystal clear about this up front.]

Assessment guidelines / details / expectations
To pass this topic, students will be required to complete the following 2 assessments:
Assignment 1:
Word length: 2000 words
Weighting: 50%
Due Date: Sunday 26th April 2020 at 11.55pm
Select any ONE developmental stage from the following:
Infancy (0 – 2 years)
Early childhood (2 – 6 years)

lower socio-economic background, middle socio-economic background, culturally and
linguistically diverse or CALD background, domestic violence, family member/s with
addiction, disability, etc.) and clearly state the chosen family circumstance in the title of

and negatively contribute to the childs physical, cognitive and social development.
Your essay will be assessed using the following criteria:
1. Clarity with which the chosen family circumstances are explained in relation to human
social development;

I would like to write about early childhood (2-6 years) and the circumstance is lower socio-economic background.

Is the Big Five the best way to think about personality across cultures?

opinion papers are designed to allow you to coherently present an
informed opinion, argument, critique, or perspective about some personality-related topic. Your
paper should be in the 800-1000 word range.
So, what does an informed opinion/argument/perspective mean here? Basically, it just means
that it should be grounded within reality in some way or another. So to that end, Id like you to
research and cite at least one scientific source in your paper. Academic journals and edited
academic volumes are usually your best bet, and well spend some class time on research
strategies. Youre free to cite the textbook, but it wont count as your one scientific source.
Dont cite Wikipedia, popular press books, or other popular media as your primary scientific
source.
These papers wont be graded like essays. A coherent paper that makes a clear, informed
argument or observation about a class-relevant issue will likely get full marks. We wont be
evaluating the papers based upon how correct your argument is likely to be. Common issues
that will cause papers to lose points include (but are not limited to) the following:
– failure to communicate what the opinion/argument actually is (i.e. what the point of the
paper actually is)
– lack of clarity/coherence of opinion
– excessive typos
– confusing grammar/style/structure
– paper being too short
– simply reviewing a topic or paper (as opposed to giving your thoughts on a topic).
Ill emphasize that last point again: do NOT simply review an existing paper or an existing area
of researchto do so misses the point of the assignment. Its fine to provide a quick overview of
the material youll be opining about at the outset of the paper in order to make sure your readers
are on the same page as you. But you dont have a whole lot of words to work with, so get the
intro stuff out of the way quickly and get down to work providing your contribution.
Make sure that you cite your references both in-text and in a references section at the end of the
paper (this doesnt count against the word count). It will be easiest for both you and me if you
use APA formatting, but we wont be grading your formatting per se
