The purpose of this journal entry is to demonstrate synthesis of the budget process used by both private and public sector, not-for-profit organizations, including not for profit.
Read Shooting an Elephant” and “Empathy is Actually a Choice.” Write at least 100 words answering the following questions: How does the idea of empathy relate to Orwell’s story? What did you think about both pieces of writing? How could Orwell have avoided the outcome of his story? Do you believe people can choose to have empathy?

First, articulate the normative theory of your choice. (What does that theory say about what is morally permissible/impermissible, etc.)
Second, apply it to one of the applied issues we looked at in the beginning of the course. (For example, explain what a consequentialist might say about abortion, or poverty, etc.)
Third, critically evaluate the normative theory you have chosen. Present an argument for or against it.
