Annotated Bibliography with 10 articles (undergraduate) or 15 articles (graduate students)
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations on a certain topic that provide a description of each of the various books, articles, and other sources on the list. The annotated bibliography looks like a References list but includes a summary and a critical evaluation (i.e., annotation) after each source that is cited.

You will create an annotated bibliography on your research topic, using empirical research study articles from recent (after 2015) academic journals. Use these guidelines for this assignment and the template for formatting this assignment (on Blackboard):

Cite the source using APA style.

Describe and summarize in your own words the purpose of the research study, the methods that were used, the sample size and population that was studied, and what were the main findings. This should be about four sentences long.

Evaluate (annotate in your own words) the strengths and weaknesses of each source
Is it a useful study? Is the information reliable? Is this source biased or objective? How does this study add to the understanding of your research topic? This should be about three sentences long.

Each annotation should be one paragraph, between seven to ten sentences long (about 250-300 words).
Try to be objective and give explanations if you state any opinions. Use the third person (e.g., he, she, the author) instead of the first person (e.g., I, my, me).

Immigration Reform 1986

A 1525 page research paper will afford an opportunity for students to complete an in-depth investigation of policy formation in an area of your choice, such as health, environmental, or housing policy. Using materials in the public record, students will prepare a “legislative history” of one national policy statute which analyzes how a public problem was identified, defined, and represented to Congress; how and what response was formulated to address this problem; how the response was reformulated and legitimated, and what the resulting policy was intended to accomplish. This might include a critical analysis of some implementation experience with a previous policy, which evaluates recommendations for amending it. See the recommended Jones text above for chapters on each of the underlined terms above. Limit yourself to one major statute or you wont get it finished this year. Major statute, not a minor statute of a few pages and little interest.

To earn a passing grade, the paper must be professional in appearance, about 1525 typewritten pages (double spaced lines, 14 pt Times Roman font) and must utilize at least TEN references not in the assigned readings, in correct citation form at the end of the paper (not at foot of page). This means you must cite at least ten different sources, at least once each in the text of your paper, using parenthetical reference form:  (Hamilton 2008, 43). These sources must also appear at the end of the paper in an alphabetized Reference List. See APSA Style Manual for guidance.

Empircal Research Article

The questions that should be answered about the article:

Discussion Topic:

Choose one concept, research finding, or question that stood out to you in your readings and content assigned for this week. Find an empirical research article* about this that was published in the scientific literature in the last 7 years and provide a summary of that article here answering the following questions. Attach the article to your post, and provide an APA style reference for it at the bottom of your post.

1. What is the item that stood out to you and why?

2. What did the authors of the study you selected examine in their research? What did they hypothesize and why (rationale)?

3. What methods did they use? (*Empirical articles have a methods section. If your article does not have a methods section, it is not the correct article to use for this discussion).

4. What were the most meaningful findings the authors reported?

5. What is one limitation to their study?

6. How do the findings from this study help you better understand the content from this week?
