Research Article Review

1. What were the major concepts in the research question(s)? How clearly were they defined?

2. Did the measures of the variables seem valid and reliable? How did the authors attempt to establish this (e.g., did they establish face validity, content validity, criterion validity, construct validity? Did they establish test-retest reliability, interitem reliability, alternate form reliability, interobserver reliability)? Could any more have been done in the study to establish measurement validity?

3. Was an experimental design used? If so, which type of experimental design was it? What was the treatment? What was (were) the outcome(s)? How were subjects in the experimental group and the control group assigned?  How were pretesting and posttesting done?

4. Identify sources of internal and external invalidity that are not controlled by the experimental design.

Do not use any other references or sources, only use what I have provided you and that is Gitlin et al. 2001.pdf

Race and Ethnicity Subcultures

Hunt et al. “How Asian Am I?”

1) List and describe the three sets of ways that young Asian American youths are negotiating their racial/ethnic identity and their subcultural identity. Each set should be described with at least 250 words: a) disjuncture b) connectedness c) no connection.

2) How do stereotypes (the model minority myth), along with issues of “authenticity” and/or whitewashing impact these ways of negotiating their identities? You can address this as a whole (you don’t have to do this for each set of identity processing) in at least 500 words and you must integrate at least three quotes from the reading.

This essay should be somewhat evenly split – so there should be about 300 words on the WHY and about 500 words on the HOW of resistance. Incorporate at least three quotes from the article and reference both video clips.

All of these responses can be in one Word document, which should be uploaded via “Assignments” by 9 pm on 4/2.

Morals/Ethics/Morality

Read and think about each of the questions below.  Then choose one of the questions and in a response of at least 300 words, explain your feelings about that value. In addition, describe other moral values that the question you chose does not address.

Do we have a moral responsibility toward less fortunate people?
Is it wrong to divulge a secret that someone has confided in you?
Should we try to keep people alive at all costs, no matter what their physical or mental condition?
Is it wrong to kill someone in self-defense?
Should people be given equal opportunities, regardless of race, religion, or gender?
Is it wrong to ridicule someone, even if you believe its in good fun?
Should you bend the rules to advance your career?
Is it morally acceptable to manipulate people into doing what you want if you believe its for their own good?
Should we always try to take other peoples needs into consideration when we act, or should we first make sure that our own needs are taken care of?
Should we experiment with animals to improve the quality of our lives?
