Contemporary Song Analysis

Choose a popular song from the past two years that you deem significant. Please make sure that it is from 2019 or 2020 (you will

have marks taken off if it is not from the right time period). If there are differing dates for the song’s album and single release, or

some other situation with the dates, as long as one of the dates is 2019 or 2020, that is fine. You can pick your favourite song,

your least favourite song, a song that has some political significance, a song that uses unusual instruments, a cover of an older

song, a mash-up of older songs, an unusual genre, etc.
You must provide a copy of the song through a YouTube link at the end of your document.

Content of analysis report:

Background (maximum one page)

State who recorded the song, what the song title is, what the song’s date is, and who wrote it. In an opening paragraph, describe

the artist(s). Who are they? Where are they from? What else have they done? How is their music usually described in the media?

The judiciary

The purpose of Questions 1 and 2 are to introduce to the importance of the Judicial Branches in your society.
Specially, the US Supreme Court as it relates to the elections of the President and the Senate. It’s the
President who nominates the justices and the Senate who confirms the nomination…notwithstanding the
political conflict that is going on in Washington DC. The polarization has been happening for a couple of
decades but what you are seeing is unprecedented. Hopefully, the response to the COVID-19 crisis will bring
together the parties in the longer term. We need the days of comity in government, honest disagreements,
civility in discourse and compromise to return to government.
Question 1: Discuss three US Supreme Court cases that struck you crucially important to our society. State the
WHY’s of your choices for each case. Give any examples you may see in society of the case impacts.
Question 2: Using the list of important California Supreme Court cases, same question as #1.
Question 3: After reading the California Demographic article, discuss three statistics that peaked your curiosity.
As above, state the WHY’s and support your selections with any examples your can think of. Do you see any
impact of any of the statistics on the the California Judicial Branch?
Question 4: As to the Carillo article, Select three events or references in the article that peaked your interest or
that you did not know about. Discuss the WHY’s of your selections and any other supporting information that
you deem important to add
