Week 5 Assignment

Economic Cycle Curves

Construct the AD, SRAS, and LRAS curves for an economy experiencing (a) full employment, (b) an economic boom, and (c) a recession.  What will happen in each case if it’s only temporary?  What will happen in each case if it’s permanent?

Best Leader

This portion of the forum assignment will be a competition.  Next week you will “vote” on the best submission, but for this week, you will select your model “leader”.  You are not required to respond to any students in this section.  You only need to write your 250 word essay about your leader, why you selected them to win the competition, and what traits they possess.  Your submission can be any single person (a teacher, a coach, a relative, a mentor, a superior, or some other famous person you admire).

The Monastic Vision of the Benedictine Tradition

This assignment invites students to synthesize what they have learned in this Unit. The essay is not an opinion piece; instead, it invites students to demonstrate what they have learned about the purposes and impact of monasticism, particularly the Benedictine Tradition.

Drawing from all of the readings for this Unit, including what you have learned about the mission of Jesus of Nazareth, Benedict of Nursia, and Benedictine monasticism:

Write a essay (double-spaced) on The Monastic Vision.
o    Specifically, describe what the monastic vision is, how it affects the larger mission of the Church and how it impacts men and women even today.
o    Review your notes and what you have learned about the Catholic Benedictine Tradition. Remember that the Benedictine tradition is not separate from the Christian tradition. Rather, it is a way of living out the values and principles of this religion.
As always, the essay should have a strong thesis statement, introduction and conclusion, and demonstrate your own thoughtful reflection.

Week5 Discussion ENO

It is important to distinguish between changes that are anticipated and unanticipated because the impact on the economy will differ between the two.  The economy is in long-run equilibrium when the short-run aggregate supply curve, aggregate demand curve, and long-run aggregate supply curve are in equilibrium.

What are the major factors causing a shift in aggregate demand (inward or outward)?  What are the major factors that will affect short-run aggregate supply?  Long-run aggregate supply?

Review what factors will lead to a shift in the AD, SAS, and LRAS.  An increase in output due to economic growth will increase both short-run and long-run aggregate supply.  Unanticipated changes in either aggregate demand or aggregate supply will disrupt long-run equilibrium and cause current output to differ from the economy’s long-run potential.
