Dr. King’s “Triple Evils”: poverty, racism, and violence (war) are forms of social chaos that exists in a vicious cycle. They are interrelated, all-inclusive, and stand as barriers to our living in the “Beloved Community” (define King’s “Beloved Community”). When we work to remedy one evil, we affect all evils. The issues are changed in accordance with the political and social climate of our communities and nation. What is the 2020 status of our communities and nation? In 2020, are we headed for continued “chaos or community? Why or why not? Based on King’s book, what is your thoughtful evidence then and now? What were King’s solutions to individual, community and national chaos and violence? What will you do in 2020 to confront this dilemma? How will your individual effort(s) help reverse “chaos” and sustain forward movement toward “community?” Is nonviolent direct action viable in 2020?
