Your proposal will serve as the beginning of a conversation between you and me about your final essay.  I want to know what topic you are discussing and what you intend to say about it. You’ll need to limit yourself to a single issue because this is only a 4 – 7 page paper.
Your thesis will be your conclusion about your columnist’s viewpoint on a certain issue or your viewpoint on a current topic. The substance of your essay will support that thesis with examples from at least 3 – 5 sources.
Your proposal will consist of five parts:
Your topic – What issue will you discuss? It might be your columnist’s view on an issue or your own opinion about a current topic
Your thesis – A complete sentence about your topic – what will you argue in your essay?
Your background with your topic – Have you researched it before? Have you written papers on this topic? It’s fine if you have, but I’ll need to know that this is a separate paper, written specifically for this class. What is your reason for choosing this topic.
Possible research you might use as a basis for your argument.  Please don’t write “Google.”  I know you’ll use Google.
Any sort of problems you foresee? Will you be able to find enough information? Will the information be mostly biased one way or another?

Studying all aspects of a company’s financial statements is necessary in order to understand the financial performance and health of a company. This is particularly important for investors trying to determine whether or not to buy stock in the company.

An investor has approached you about whether or not purchasing stock in the company would be a wise investment. Using your financial analysis of the company, you will send a letter to the investor summarizing your findings and explaining whether you recommend a stock purchase at this time.

You will use information in the Form 10-K for the company you selected in the Topic 1 to complete this assignment. Using the correct formulas and a separate tab for each analysis, calculate the following ratios using Excel:

Three liquidity ratios for the past 3 years
Three solvency ratios for the past 3 years
