Essay Proposal:

Each student is required to complete a proposal in anticipation of their final essay that compares one of the films covered in the course with one of the following films available on Criterion-on-Demand: Dirty Dancing (1987), Footloose (1984 or 2011), The Full Monty (1997),Hairspray (2007) or How She Move (2008). (Other dance films that are not on Criterion-on-Demand and/or not covered in the course may be considered with permission of the TA). As part of the proposal students must identify and cite three scholarly secondary sources using MLA citation. Only one secondary source may be from the required readings.

1. Select a film from the course that you will be using for your assignment. Your film choices are:

Construction Planning

You are the owner of a construction company. You have a Design-Bid-Build single award time and material contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs to construct VA Hospital Annex not to exceed $1.5M.

This building is going to use an estimated 500 – Columbia Street Brickweb Thin Brick Flats bricks and 75 – Columbia Street Brickweb Thin Brick Corners, both manufactured by Old Mill Brick and available at Home Depot.

Requirements
Write a paper outlining the considerations of this material in terms of the following segments:
What specifications would be needed?
What safety considerations are needed for installing the bricks?
What preconstruction activities are necessary for the bricks?
What are the construction activities for the bricks (think CPM activities)?
How would you use value engineering for the masonry work?
How would you measure and expect payment for the bricks?
What inspections would you propose for the masonry work?
What would you do if the price changed a week before you purchased the brick?
After purchasing the brick, the supplier tells you they don’t have the brand/design brick you asked and paid for. They offer you a substitute. What will you do next?
