Elevator Speech

An elevator speech is a strategy to make a strong first impression by introducing yourself and giving a short synopsis of your skills and experience. An elevator speech lasts no longer than a short elevator ride which takes about 20 to 30 seconds. What you say should be memorable and interesting. After all, in a job-hunting situation, you are competing with other qualified candidates. Therefore, your elevator speech should make you stand out from the crowd.

During an interview, the question in the listener’s mind is “Why should I hire you?”  So, your goal in your elevator speech is to market your strengths and talents and build rapport with the listener. In this assignment, you will develop and deliver your own 20-30 second elevator speech that is unique to your skills, passions, work experience, accomplishments, and goals.  Be sure to use the information sheet provided which will guide you through the process of developing an elevator speech that embodies a structure, flow, and style that best suits you.

Your speech should be 20-30 seconds and consist of 75-100 words.  It should provide a brief professional introduction and overview of yourself.

Opinion on readings

A 300 word minimum response paper on the assigned text book reading for that week is due.

It is not and I do not want a summary of the readings. It is to be your own original thoughts and opinions on the assigned readings. Showing me that you have an understanding of the material, what it makes you think, feel, believe… tells me you understood it, that you got something from it. Spitting out some basic summary tells me nothing and can be done without you really having read the material. You need to show me that you learned. This is purely on the readings assigned. Think of it like an in person conversation, what would you say if I asked you to explain what you got from the readings, what you thought of the readings

These assignments need not conform to any particular essay format, I ask only that you use proper english and complete sentences, and that it be a minimum of 300 words (yes I will check).
