What were some major events that occurred during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson?

President Lyndon B Johnson was originally President John F. Kennedy’s running mate. When Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, Johnson was sworn in. He had a vision to create “A Great Society” for the people of America. After continuing the civil rights bill that Kennedy had started, Lyndon Johnson had won the Presidential vote of America in 1964 with 61 percent of the vote.

In 1965 The Great Society program became Johnson’s his main push focusing (amongst other things) on poverty, the right to vote, Medicare, and aid to education. Johnson also tried to reach a settlement to end Communist aggressions in Vietnam, to no avail. He started a process called escalation, with American troops. He started out by sending 2 battalions of Marines to Vietnam, then followed up with army units to the air base, and more marines in the air. This process escalated more and more until about 500 thousand military personnel were fighting in Vietnam. Even with so much representation the war never seemed to be coming to an end. Not only were they fighting Northern Vietnam soldiers, but they had to battle armed civilians as well. After conducting numerous bombings in Northern Vietnam to try and encourage surrender seemed to not work, President Johnson couldn’t take the heat any longer. He announced in March 1968 that he would not be going up for re-election.

This research will culminate in a short paper identifying the capital item(s) you are proposing, describing: I. Impacts and Justification A. Short-Term Impact: What short-term impact will this request have on the overall financial statements used for decision making and on financial planning? B. Long-Term Impact: What long-term impact will this request have on the overall financial statements used for decision making and on financial planning? C. Strategic Planning: Provide an explanation for each budget request in your proposal, taking into consideration strategic plans. How do your budget requests show strategic planning and forethought? E.
