Dancing at a club

Description

Go out dancing at a club, concert, rave, house party, formal dance class, or other social event (this must be a current event that has happened once you have started this course). Play the role of an ethnographer and observe through an anthropological lens. What is the event? Where is it happening? Who is there? What style of dancing is occurring? What is the music? Notice your physical experience. What does this dance event feel like in your body? Using the idea that movement knowledge is a form of cultural knowledge, what information about the people and culture do you gain from physically participating in this particular event? Interview one participant about how they value this particular social dance event.

Write a 2-3 page response integrating your answers to these questions or any others that feel pertinent with terminology and concepts from class lectures and readings.

You must use a minimum of 2 literary sources from class, bringing in knowledge and terms from the class, cited in the body of the paper, in MLA format. If you choose to pull additional information from outside of class, make sure you are properly citing.
