Before work can be done in any Community Practice Project, a Social Service Worker must first develop a thorough understanding of the community they have selected for this assignment. For this project, each group member is responsible for engaging in exploratory research and writing a comprehensive report that will assist the group to understand the community selected as a whole, specific areas of focus, and arrive at clear objectives. Included in your report is an explanation of what areas of the group project you are responsible for, how you conducted your research, what you have discovered and how you believe this information will help the project. Please ensure that this report is evidence-informed and does not include your opinion or feelings on the subject.
Time will be provided in class for groups to generate questions that will help them to better understand their community of choice. It is expected the group will be dividing the work equally, sharing responsibility for research amongst individual members, and using the group contract and meeting minutes to document action items, timelines, and responsibilities.
In addition to the areas outlined above, each group member will include the following in their individual report:
You will include your initial understanding of the community/issue your group is looking into before you conducted your research. You will list the questions that you are taking responsibility to explore further and provide a rationale for selecting the questions.
You will reflect on your initial learning about the community, the relevance to you as a Social Service Worker, and link a theoretical perspective to your analysis of the findings of your research.
Your conclusion will include what you now believe the primary issues that are readily apparent and what key issue(s) you feel your group might focus on.
Assignment 2 in 600 words, identify and analyze the actors that negotiate power in the context you are studying. In doing this, reflect on and write about: actors with power, actors without power, power that is negotiated, examples of situation where power is treated as status quo. We define an actor as any entity with agency and (in theory) tools to act upon the world. Examples: an individual, a group of people, a country, a university, an institution. You are required to engage with at least two articles from throughout our semesters reading (not to overlap with readings that you use in any other assignment). The assignment will be graded on three rubrics: Coherence (30%), ethnographic appropriateness (50%), grammar, spelling, and length (20%).
Critically evaluate the view that CSR reporting should be treated the same as financial reporting i.e. it should have a strict and a well-developed reporting and regulatory regime supporting it. In addition, critically evaluate the arguments put forward in item 4, namely that there is a potential conflict between CSR and profit related activities. Can this conflict be resolved?
