Week 3 Writing Assignment

Read the Datar et al. which is a case study describing the process economics of the production of tPA using both eukaryotic cells (CHO) and prokaryotic cells (E. coli). Write a concise and articulate report using prose (400-600 words; not in outline format) addressing the following questions:

Mammalian culture is generally believed to be more expensive to operate than prokaryotic culture. What made this case study unique was the opposite result. In your opinion, what are the main reasons why recombinant tPA cost less to manufacture from CHO cells than that from E. coli?
What are the bottlenecks in production of CHO-tPA and Bacterial tPA?
Why was the equipment cost of bacterial tPA much higher than that of CHO-tPA?
What are the lessons you have learned from this case study on tPA bioprocessing? How can they be applied to current biopharmaceuticals?

Firm Prod

Tasks:
Read the following paper:

Moretti, E. (2004). Workers’ Education, Spillovers, and Productivity: Evidence from Plant-Level Production Functions. The American Economic Review, 94(3): 656-690.
Write Essay
And write an essay that addresses the following,

Moretti (2004) discusses a production function in equation (1).  Given the production function in equation (1), explain the CMP for a given plant.  Clearly describe the goal, the choice variables, the exogenous variables and the constraint.  Describe the notable economic relationships that solve the CMP.
Given the production function in equation (1), suppose in the same industry and in the same year, you compare two plants.  Each plant is attempting to produce the same output quota and each plant faces the same input prices.  However, one plant is located in a city with a majority of college-educated workers.  The other plant is located in a city with a minority of college-educated workers.
Using the CMP, which plant will have a lower total cost?  Which plant will have a lower conditional input demand for at least one input?
If each firm can sell their output at the same price to consumers and each plant’s output is fixed at the same output quota, then using the PMP which plant will have higher profit?
With many plants, industries and years, what general and testable predictions emerge (i.e. what is the predicted relationship between the share of college educated people and plant productivity, total cost, employment of inputs and profit)?
Offer a brief summary of Moretti (2004).  Your summary should contain the research question, the data used, the important testable hypothesis examined and the empirical findings (note the findings are on pg 667 and the paragraphs that discuss Table 3).
Additional Information:

A NARROWTIVE ESSAY ABOUT A TIME I WHEN TO MY FAVORITE

ever been a to restaurant or a place where the smell of the food is so good that it made your mouth water or drool. Well, for me this is everything I go to my favorite restaurant Raffertys.
I remember my first time going there; my family and I were going for my birthday. The weather was great, the sun was shining and it was windy. My Raffertys is my favorite restaurant because I love all of the food there.  My head was hurting a little I had just gotten my box braids by the Africans up the streets the day before. I like my food neatly made and it has to be all the way cooked. I do not eat everyones cooking at all. What is makes them so unique are their honey butter croissants and their loaded baked-potatoes.  When I first walked  in the door to Raffertys there was this always this sweet smell of their honey butter croissant rolls in the air and the restaurant was clean as a whistle. Was really I usually get their mouthwatering sweet tea and get four basket of croissant and three loaded baked potatoes with extra everything. Their sweet tea is sweet than honeycomb, just how I like it. Their loaded baked potatoes are always big and fat stuffed with lots of delicious bacon shredded cheese, and chives with sour cream on top.  They have plenty of different meals, drinks, dessert, and much more. You can eat there. It gives me a big variety of things to choose from. You can also call and get a go to order.  The only reason why I go to Raffertys is to get their sweet tea, croissant, and loaded baked potatoes.
