Setting

Read Norton p. 282-287 to better understand the importance of setting in a story. Often setting can be highly symbolic and also reveal important insight on the characters.

This essay (and subsequent essays) should have a more formal tone and avoid personal pronouns “I” and “you.”

Select ONE of the following stories and analyze (primarily) the significance of the setting, although you may bring in other literary elements as appropriate. State your opinion without using “I” (see p, 1918-20).

“The Veldt,” 328–consider the futuristic nature of the house, alongside the primitive nature of the Africa veldt.

“The Open Boat,” 433–consider the tension between the experience on the ocean and life on the shore, and the community inside the boat itself. Optional: you could compare this story with the movie “The Life of Pi.”

“A Pair of Tickets,” 293–consider how place and personal identity are sometimes inseparable.

“Story of an Hour,” 568–consider the role of women around 1890, particularly in Louisiana, and the descriptions in Mrs. Mallard’s bedroom. (If you wrote about this story in your Response Essay, you cannot use this again.)

Analyzing & Visualizing Data

Background: Quantitative data can be measured and documented with numbers. Additionally, quantitative data can be represented as quantities. On the other hand, qualitative data is not measured with numbers, but it is represented by qualities. For example, I use quantitative methods to conduct my PhD research because I like working with counts and measures.

Assignment: Write a research paper the contains the following:

  • Discuss Quantitative Methodology
  • Discuss Qualitative Methodology
  • Compare and contrast qualitative data vs quantitative data

Your research paper should be at least 3 pages (800 words), double-spaced, have at least 4 APA references, and typed in an easy-to-read font in MS Word (other word processors are fine to use but save it in MS Word format). Your cover page should contain the following: Title, Students name, Universitys name, Course name, Course number, Professors name, and Date.

Predictive Analytics And Predictive Modeling

Topic: Predictive Analytics and Predictive Modeling

Overview: Predictive analytics looks forward to attempt to divine unknown future events or actions based on data mining, statistics, modeling, deep learning and artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Business Intelligence, its predecessor in analytics, is a look backward. Predictive models are applied to business activities to better understand customers, with the goal of predicting buying patterns, potential risks, and likely opportunities.

Each industry and business sector deploys predictive analytics in different ways to improve operations and reduce risk. Please select one industry from the list and present a use case for applying predictive analytics and predictive modeling.

Retail Healthcare Sports Weather Insurance Energy Social Media Financial Services

Guidelines for Submission: Using APA 6th edition style standards, submit a Word document that is 2-4 pages in length (excluding title page, references, and appendices) and include at least two credible scholarly references to support your findings. Be sure to cite and reference your work using the APAguides.

Include the following critical elements in your essay: I. Use Case: Briefly describe a use case for applying predictive analytics in the industry you have selected form the list above. What predictive analytics strategy works best for this use case? (social network, location-based, text, speech, and facial or visual analyses, for example)  II. Predictive Modeling. Explain how predictive modeling can be used in this case to help determine the optimal outcome for the scenario in the use case. Which predictive modeling technique best fits the use case for predicting favorable outcomes? (linear regression, decision tree, or clustering, for example) III. Data Mining: Describe one data mining technique that would be useful for collecting the data required to support the model which needs to be developed to predict the most suitable results to the use case (generalization, characterization, pattern matching, data visualization, evolution, or meta rule-guided mining, for example).

Required elements: Please ensure your paper complies APA 6th edition style guidelines. There is an essay template located under the Information link. APA basics: o Your essay should be typed, double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5″ x 11″) o Use 1″ margins on all sides, first line of all paragraphs is indented from the margin o Use 12 pt. Directions:

  • Students are required to post one original response to the discussion questions each week, as well as a response to one classmate. Between 1 a.m. on Thursday and 11 p.m. on Saturday, you should have done your secondary posting. Your secondary posting is a response to one classmate’s post. Each answer/response should be supported with research. Responses to classmates should not be “I agree or “I like the way you stated that. These responses should again be insightful, offering an opinion or facts based on your research and experiences. The response to one classmate should be a minimum of 125 words. See APA criteria for citing resources. You must provide a minimum of a reference, in APA format, in your original response.
