Management Consulting 5

Often times consulting and project manager roles get confused when they, in fact, should not be used interchangeably.

For this weeks discussion, I would like you to consider the following:

  • The concept of the Consulting Approach for winning work as discussed in Chapter 5 of our text.
  • The statement Project management in a typical consulting engagement is not complex, but consultants are not great project managers found on page 111 in our text.
  • The actions of counsel and consult and the two different things that should be presented at the end of an engagement.

After reading our text and the considerations above, students should answer to the following questions.

  1. What is the difference between a consultant and a project manager?
  2. Explain why are consultants not great project manager?
  3. What are the differences in the deliverables between a consultant and project manager?
  4. What skills or traits do you have personally that as a consultant would help you win work and satisfy a client?

The Changing Role Of Global Human Capital Managers And Sustaining The Competitive Edge

You and Shawn are now ready to meet with John and AGCs investor group. Shawn calls to check in with you about the executive report. You need to add one more section of information that will help ensure that AGC remains proactive and competitive in a quickly changing global environment. You have enjoyed working with Shawn on the change management project and know that you will soon have fond memories of helping AGC be more aware of the value of human capital.

Review the AGC scenario for this course, revise Part 1 of the Key Assignment based on your instructors feedback, and add an additional 7501000 words to the executive report that addresses the following:

  • Now that the change management plan has been completed, describe AGCs new leadership styles and organizational culture.
  • Are there any potential internal or external threats that AGC should be prepared to address in its business environment?
  • How can AGC detect these potential internal and external threats?
  • What are some methods that AGC can use to protect the organization from these internal and external threats?

REGIONAL PROFILE 3: Northern Spain: Los Sanfermines and Camino de Santiago

Assignment: Please watch the following video on Northern Spain. This video was done by Rick Steves, a famous travel author, and it are very informative and gives you a fantastic look at the different regions of Northern Spain.

What I am asking you to do is this: Take notes as you watch the video and then submit those notes in Canvas. People take notes differently, so it is difficult to give a length requirement. Instead, please follow the guidelines below.

This assignment is worth 25 points. Points will be deducted for VAGUE, INCOMPLETE, UNINTELLIGIBLE, or UNREADABLE responses. This is an unstructured, fun, and easy assignment, but the onus is on you to make it readable and understandable.

What I am looking for is this:

Prove that you watched the entire video(s) carefully by including notes from all sections of it (from beginning to end). If in doubt, add MORE details. Err on the side of caution, but use your best judgement. You do NOT need to write down everything you hear!
Make note of important PLACES, DATES, PEOPLE, etc. from EACH PLACE THAT YOU VISIT {Tangier, Gibraltar, Ronda etc.} Make sure the importance of the item is clearly stated (i.e., dont just write a random name/date/fact.)
PLEASE USE COMPLETE SENTENCES. You might have to pause the video to do this part, but it will help me.
You are welcome to submit handwritten notes that are scanned in and attached. You may also type them directly into the textbox for this assignment.
You MUST include a brief concluding paragraph outlining which place from the video you would most like to visit. It can be a city, a museum, or any other attraction.
Points will be deducted for VAGUE, INCOMPLETE, UNINTELLIGIBLE, or UNREADABLE responses. This is an unstructured, fun, and easy assignment, but the onus is on you to make it readable and understandable.
Note: Do not under any circumstances use parts or all of the transcript for this video as your submission. Taking notes is NOT the same as transcribing the video and you are not being asked to write down every word you hear. If you do this, I will assume you took the material from a transcript and at a minimum I will assign a zero for that grade. [This might seems harsh, but it happened seven times last semester so I want to be crystal clear about this up front.]
