Discuss how the concept of “health” has changed overtime. Discuss how the concept has evolved to include wellness, illness, and overall well-being. How has health promotion changed over time? Why is it important that nurses implement health promotion interventions based on evidence-based practice?

Teacher comment:

Peoples view on health have changed over the years. Previously people thought they were healthy if they were free of disease and able to work and support their family. With access to health insurance, people are seeing their physicians for annual check-ups where primary prevention is placed as high priority. Vaccinations are emphasized as each new child is brought into the world. Community events are held to teach people about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Risk factors are assessed, and monitoring takes place (ie: elevated blood pressure, impaired fasting blood glucose). There is availability of medications to treat many conditions before they cause damage, and this is the role of secondary prevention detection and treatment. Health care professionals utilize Evidence Based Practice in their care of patients in both health promotion and illness prevention.

Write one or two questions which you will respond to in about a page (approx. 200 words). You do not need to actually answer the question, instead think of your question as a starting point for discovering other questions, possible answers, what the prior necessities are to answer it etc. There is no need to do internet research to complete this assignment, but if you find some interesting information feel free to include it. However, this is not a research project.

The purpose of this assignment is to practice using the concepts introduced in class, and will be graded accordingly. Good uses of your time would be to explore ethical questions you have experienced, to answer questions raised in class, and/or to test out a theory on a hypothetical in a low stakes assignment.

As we have experienced, the Internet and its related technologies has  a dramatic impact on the nature and quality of our lives. As Internet  users, we have vast amounts of information literally at our fingertips.  We can communicate, collaborate, and transact on a global scale in ways  that were unimaginable only a few years ago. But even in a society as  technologically advanced as we are, there are still a large number of  those that do not have access to this technology, dont have the skills  to use it or refuse to utilize technology for other reasons. As you  approach this assignment, think of those affected by the Digital Divide  more broadly than the traditional angle of who has and who has not.

After reading the module notes and all supplemental materials, respond to following:

  • Briefly describe the traditional definition of the digital divide. What is it and who is affected, positively and adversely?

  • How does the digital divide affect those without access to technology?
