After you have read a summary of the story of Gilgamesh mentioned in your text, please pick two of the following topics to write about. Please write a 400 word paper addressing the questions. Remember to follow the guidelines for WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS in the syllabus. Cite your sources.

3. Compare the Biblical story of the flood with the version of the flood told by Utnapishtim in Gilgamesh. Now, identify several ways in which the two floods are similar and several ways in which they are different. What do you think is the most striking difference between them? What was the purpose of the flood in Gilgamesh? What was the purpose of the flood in the Hebrew Bible? What do these different purposes tell you about the relationship of human beings to divinity in each? Use specific examples from both stories to support your ideas.

4. Discuss the themes of Mortality, Permanence, and Fame that are all addressed in the story of Gilgamesh. Why is the fear of death so great? Why doesn’t their religion comfort them, bring them hope? Is the lesson that nothing is permanent a lesson that mortals can never learn; perhaps it’s not in our nature; perhaps it’s not a good lesson to learn? Why is it so important for Gilgamesh to achieve fame? Does this have anything to do with religion? Use specific examples from the story to support your ideas.

A short video must be viewed. Then mapping is required. Mapping pictures are attached. I can include more mapping picture examples if needed. 

In this video, a prosecuting attorney in New York is bringing charges of murder against individuals who have killed other people while driving under the influence. The attorney argues everyone understands driving while under the influence poses risks for the driver and for other people, including the risk of a fatal accident.

The statutes provide for charges of depraved indifference when ones behavior results in the unintended, but foreseeable death of another human being. Defense attorneys argue, among other things, the laws pertaining to murder were never intended to be applied in this way. The debate was captured by CBSs 60 Minutes in a segment that aired on August 2, 2009.

After reviewing the segment:

  • Map out the reasoning for both sides of this debate.  These will be two, distinct maps.  Do not combine both sides of the debate into one map.
  • Evaluate the reasonings using the four tests for evaluating arguments.  These will be two, distinct evaluations using The Four Tests of Worthiness:  1) Truthfulness; 2) Strength; 3) Relevance; 4) Non-Circularity.  Do not combine both arguments into one evaluation.

Tuberculosis (TB) rates have increased worldwide. A local prison facility has just completed their yearly TB screening of inmates and employees. The screening program resulted in identification of 3 inmates and 2 staff members with positive Mantoux tests. In your post:
