Patient Privacy Violation

As a manager of a small, solo physician office clinic, the physician presents a concern that was brought up by a patient. The hospital that the physician is affiliated with recently purged the medical records department in preparation for a computer upgrade, and the patient found a dumpster out back with patients full medical records sitting in the open, available for anyone to see. The patient is concerned as they have records in the hospital, as well as other family members having records in the hospital.

 For this weeks assignment:

Create a response to the patient detailing the expectations for records maintained and proper destruction in laymans terms so that the patient understands the process and requirements.

Outline a plan of action that will be taken by the physician and office manager to address this situation with the hospital, detailing the requirements established by CMS and the state health department.

Create a public release for the patient population to provide notification of the situation and how it will be rectified.

Please review the rubric to ensure that your assignment meets criteria.

Submit:

Week 1 discussion.

Answer the noted questions.

You are evaluating a 78-year-old white male who comes to your office today with unintentional weight loss of 10 lb in the last year, self-reported exhaustion weakness based on grip strength, and slow walking speed, and low physical activity. Patient notes that he has been feeling worse over the past 6 months and just does not have the strength to do anything anymore. The patient states he is not currently on any medications except a multivitamin. He notes that he lives alone and does not want to leave his house. Answer the following questions with supportive rationale:

  1. What questions should you as the patient/family ask to further assess?
  2. What screening tools would be appropriate in this case?
  3. Do you have concerns with frailty in this patient?  If so, why?
  4. What referrals should be made, if any, on this patient?

Social Issues and the Workplace

Choose a social issue affecting the workplace and working environment, and develop a paper that thoroughly discusses the issue from both the workplace and societal viewpoints. Be sure to include the positive and negative aspects of the issue in relation to the workplace, society, and workers, especially the unique worker groups who may be most affected (e.g., women, immigrants, LGBTQ citizens, the working or middle classes, and racial, ethnic or cultural groups). Analyze how the issue could be positively supported using various social controls (e.g., laws, organizational policies/practices, training/education, government or corporate involvement, or social change) and recommend interventions in these areas. In addition, discuss the potential social or economic benefits which may result if your recommendations were implemented.

Choose one of the following social issues:

The role of women in leadership

Faith-based decision making in business (hiring and customers served)

The use of immigrant labor in California

Sexual harassment

Executive versus worker compensation disparity

The gender wage gap

Whistleblowing

The paper must be eight to ten double-spaced pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least five scholarly sources (three of which must be found in the University Library) other than the textbook to support your claims. Cite your sources in text and on the reference page.
