Assignment: Coping With Change: Change Management Models and Philosophies wk 2

Assignment: Coping With Change: Change Management Models and Philosophies
Amateur and professional cooks who enter competitions will often spend hours searching for just the right ingredients for the perfect recipe. They have likely formed philosophies about cooking and food that either consciously or unconsciously guide their efforts. After they are satisfied, they may present their dish to judges and other tasters, who often try to guess the secret ingredients in the winning recipe.

In a similar fashion, change management researchers spend considerable time trying to find the perfect recipe or model for managing change, because they realize that effective change management can mean the difference between business success and failure. To test assumptions based on underlying philosophies about change, researchers carefully analyze business leaders who were either successful or unsuccessful at managing change. Using these analyses, researchers put forth models as their recipes for change management. As a result, a multitude of sometimes-conflicting philosophies and models have emerged. Business professionals searching for advice on effective change management must be knowledgeable about the models available in order to choose a model or combination of models that best aligns with their own philosophies and beliefs about change and the organization they are leading.

To prepare for this Assignment, consider both successful and unsuccessful organizational changes of which you have been a part, or with which you are familiar, and evaluate how these organizational changes support or refute the philosophies and models offered by this weeks Learning Resources and/or any additional resources that you have selected.

By Day 7
Submit a scholarly, 2- to 4-page evaluation of two change management philosophies and models. Your evaluation must include the following:

An examination of the reasons for successful organizational change
An evaluation of your personal experience with or knowledge of organizational changes, both successful and unsuccessful
A dissection of the organizational change philosophies and or models that contain concepts that support and/or refute your successful and unsuccessful organizational change experiences
A synthesis of the Learning Resources along with appropriately formatted references to a minimum of two scholarly, peer-reviewed articles per page of your paper to support your assertions
Be sure to use the APA Course Paper Template (6th Ed.), found in this weeks Learning Resources, to complete this Assignment. Also, refer to the Week 2 Assignment Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work. Please Note: For each page of your paper, you must include a minimum of two APA-formatted scholarly citations.

Discussion: Pretend You Are the Instructor

Literature is the art of writing something that will be read twice.
Cyril Connolly, Enemies of Promise

Two of the competencies you must develop in order to become an independent scholar include writing in a scholarly voice and tone and following an appropriate academic style. In your quest to become a scholarly writer, you must follow the rules meticulously detailed in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). Initially, recalling each rule will be difficult, but over time it will become second nature. Knowing where to look to determine if the manuscript you are reading or writing is in accordance with APA standards is critically important. Following a standard writing format increases the probability of others being able to easily comprehend your manuscript.

As you develop your scholarly writing prose in this program and beyond, there are two things to keep in mind: Adhering to APA writing format is required for your Discussions and Assignments, and others will read your manuscripts for comprehension. Occasionally, new writers forget they have a scholarly audience who will read their papers. It is important that the writer understand the significance of placing him or herself in the position of the reader. To that end, you will assume the role of an Instructor and will review an anonymous college paper to provide APA feedback to a student writer. During this exercise, you will practice recognizing APA errors and locating within the APA textbook the appropriate APA rules and formatting solutions.

To prepare for this Discussion, do the following:

Read and view the materials in your Learning Resources, including the Walden University academic guide pages on common reference list examples and using the Microsoft Word track changes feature. Review your APA manual for use in your assessment of the sample paper. Note: To assist you in your assessment, you may use any supplemental scholarly APA resources of your choosing.
Assess Michaels Writing Style Prose Paper to identify any APA writing errors, and use the track changes comment feature to propose corrections. As you make suggestions or corrections, be sure to include the source name and page number(s) so the author can locate the correction rule. For example, if you find text that reads, This study will provide your comment may contain the following comment: This is anthropomorphism. To correct it, please refer to the APA manual, 6th edition, pp. 6869 for details. Do this throughout the entire sample college paper.
By Day 3

Post your assessment of Michaels Writing Style Prose Paper for APA formatting. In addition to uploading your review of the paper as an attachment in the Discussion thread, include in your post answers to the following:

What were the most frequent errors you identified?
What did you find easy about the review, and what did you find challenging? Why?
What do you plan to do to further improve your knowledge of APA?
Refer to the Week 2 Discussion Rubric for specific grading elements and criteria. Your Instructor will use this rubric to assess your work.

Read a selection of your colleagues posts.

By Day 5

Respond to at least two of your colleagues postings as follows:

Support or refute your colleagues analysis of Michaels Writing Style Prose Paper, including support for your assertions.
Suggest one or more additional APA resources you found beneficial.
