How to conduct a scientific research

in this learning block, you will begin to study how scientific

research is carried out, with a big-picture view of the scientific

method. You will also start to consider different articles and

scientific topics that may be of interest to you. In this learning

block, you will explore the nature of science. Use the activities and

resources in the learning block to guide you in this exploration. After

participating in this learning block, you will be able to:

Identify the topic and main idea in a news story

Referring to the news story that you located, answer the following questions:

Provide the title and the link for the news story.
Provide a brief (1- to 2-sentence) summary of the story you selected.
Identify the main topic of this news story.
Write a brief (1- to 2-sentence) description of the branches of the natural sciences that you feel are part of the topic or main theme of this news story. If you need a refresher on some of the different branches or sub-branches of the natural sciences, feel free to refer back to the Natural Sciences Disciplines Interactive.
As you complete this assignment, keep in mind that your answers to these questions will be part of the 1-5-1 Discussion: Asking Scientific Questions, which is due at the end of this theme. Also, it is recommended that you save your answers in a Word document that you can refer to later when completing Project 1, the topic exploration graphic organizer.

This is an ungraded but required activity. As your answers will be part of the discussion as noted above, you will not submit anything in this learning block.
