Smart Robots And Society

Scenario

Zell Labs has a running contract with the U.S. Government to assess the effects that new technologies might have on our society. You are a social scientist working for the prominent Zell Labs and have been assigned as the head of the Emerging Technology Task Force (ETTF). Your primary function is to identify emerging technologies that your company can research and provide findings to the U.S. Office of Science and Technology. In your previous scientific endeavors, you became aware of an up-and-coming technology that might give Zell Labs something to consider. This technology is the advent of Smart Robots.

Instructions

In your initial investigation of emerging technologies, you have noted that Smart Robots have been listed on Gartners Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies for 2018. Create a written feasibility study containing a detailed SWOT Analysis with at least three examples of Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats along with an impact statement that addresses the following:

  • Critique the positive and negative effects Smart Robots could have on society.
  • Analyze how we view ourselves, others, and the environment in a world immersed in the use of Smart Robots.
  • Hypothesize the impact Smart Robots might have on society’s mental and physical health.

The research will need to be conducted to complete this assessment. Be sure to use credible resources, properly integrate resources into your feasibility study, and give proper attribution through citations.

Generalizing Study Results

Generalizability is the extent to which research findings from your sample population can be applicable to a larger population. There are many best practices for ensuring generalizability. Two of those are making sure the sample is as much like the population as possible and making sure that the sample size is large enough to mitigate the chance of differences within the population. For this Discussion, read the case study titled “Social Work Research: Program Evaluation” and consider how the particular study results can be generalizable.

Post your explanation of who the sample is. Also explain steps researchers took to ensure generalizability. Be sure to discuss how the study results could possibly be generalizable. Please use the resources to support your answer.

BUS402 Interactive Assignment

Prior to entering this discussion, review section 4 of the Environmental-Trend Analysis in the Abrahams textbook.

As you have learned in this weeks readings, many businesses exist in dynamic markets that pose unique economic, political, and technological challenges. Select a medium- to large-sized, publicly traded corporation that currently exists in a challenging business environment. Refer to the seven common categories of trend analysis as laid out in your textbook: Economic, regulatory/legislative, political, demographic, sociocultural, attitude/lifestyle, and technological. Research the company online by accessing the Mergent  Ashford University Library online database which offers company financials, descriptions, history, property, subsidiaries, officers and directors. Also, access the Business  Insights: Global Ashford University Library online database which offers information on global companies and industries. It includes environment analysis, market share data, financial reports, case studies, business news, and company comparison charts. (View the Mergent tipsheet and Business Insights tipsheet documents for suggested methods of searching Ashford University Library databases generally, as well as specific advice for searching these two databases). You can always conduct research using credible online sources of corporate financial information, just be sure that wherever you obtain financial information that you cite your source. Use this Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.) document for guidance. Choose one of the seven categories to use as a basis of analysis for this discussion. Ensure that the time frame is now and that the challenges are continuing.

In your initial post of at least 200 words,

  • Provide a general description of the publicly traded company you chose.
  • Describe the challenges facing the company in the chosen category of analysis.
  • Assess its current performance in your chosen category of analysis.
  • Forecast its projected performance in your chosen category of analysis.
  • Evaluate impending opportunities or challenges that result from your environmental scan.

(NOTE: Incorporate the feedback you receive from your instructor and peers and save your work. It will be part of your Strategic Plan Final Project for this course).
