Philosophy Forum

I would like you to write  most of this at a public place of some kind–just to break the habit of writing at the same place all the time.

I would suggest writing it at a Starbucks, a mall, maybe at a break room at work, on the metro….really anywhere.  A public library perhaps–one that you don’t normally visit.

Please observe the following:

1. Use a cover sheet using a title and image reflecting the thesis of the paper

2.  It should be 2-3 paragraphs–no more.

3. Begin this by saying something like, “As I sit in my neighborhood Starbucks in College Park, MD…

4.  Second, tell  us about yourself.  Where you grew up, what you are studying, what you want to study in the future.

5.  Then in either one or two paragraphs, tell us what you want to do with your life in the deep sense of the word.  What values do you wish to express, share, embody.

6.  Quote at least twice from our philosophy texts.

7. At the end of the text, add a few images from your life–things you see, people you know, pets that you care about, images from the media/TV/ film, perhaps YouTube clips of music you like.  Introduce this part of the paper by something like’  “Let me conclude by sharing a few songs that I have listened to for many years…”  or,  “here is a photo of my dog Rocky, with whom I have shared many good moments,”  or “here is where we went of vacation this year. It was a place that brought home how much xxxx means to me,”  or ‘here is a photo of where I wrote most of this paper.’

African American History

You must complete an Electronic Presentation on Black Culture.  You will select and present on the significances of two works of black culture. The first work you select must be a work of African-American literature, poetry, music, fashion, dance, or some other cultural art form that was created and/or popularized by an African American during the time periods of the Harlem and Chicago Renaissances (1917-1949).  Your second work of black culture must have been created and/or popularized by a black person (but not necessarily an African American) within YOUR lifetime.  For example, if you were born in 1999, your second cultural selection needs to have been created by a black person between 1999 and the present.  The two works you select to present do not have to share a cultural form (i.e. one work can be a poem and the other can be a song; one work can be a painting and the other can be a fashion trend).  Nor do the two works have to share a particular theme.  You may choose to do a compare-and-contrast type presentation.  But, you do not have to.  In presenting the works, you will need to provide background information on your chosen works (i.e. when where the works created; who created them or made them famous; and, what impact did the works have on the cultural landscape when and since they first appeared?).  You will also have to briefly explain why you made those particular selections, and explain what you think each work tells people about the ways in which African-American/Black culture and experiences remained congruent and/or changed from the eras of the Harlem and Chicago Renaissances to the modern era.  Moreover, your Electronic Presentation on Black Culture must be creative in both style and substance.

Identify the type of quantitative research design used and explain how the researchers implemented the design.

The selection of a research design is guided by the study’s purpose and research questions and hypotheses, and the design then links the research questions and hypotheses to the data that will be collected. You should keep in mind, however, that the research process is interactive, not necessarily proceeding in a linear fashion from one component to the next. Rather, the writing of research questions could, for example, necessitate adjustments to the study’s purpose statement. Nevertheless, when presented together, the various components of a research study should align. As you learned last week, alignment means that a research study possesses clear and logical connections among all of its various components.

In addition to considering alignment, when researchers select a research design, they must also consider the ethical implications of their choice, including, for example, what their design selection means for participant recruitment, procedures, and privacy.

For this Discussion, you will evaluate quantitative research questions and hypotheses in assigned journal articles in your discipline and consider the alignment of theory, problem, purpose, research questions and hypotheses, and design. You will also identify the type of quantitative research design the authors used and explain how it was implemented. Quasi-experimental, casual comparative, correlational, pretest–posttest, or true experimental are examples of types of research designs used in quantitative research.

With these thoughts in mind, refer to the Journal Articles document for your assigned articles for this Discussion.

Journal Article:

Flynn, P. M., Ridgeway, J. L., Wieland, M. L., Williams, M. D., Haas, L. R., Kremers, W. K., & Breitkopf, C. R. (2013). Primary care utilization and mental health diagnoses among adult patients requiring interpreters: A retrospective cohort study. Journal of General Internal Medicine, 28(3), 386–391. doi: 10.1007/s11606-012-2159-5

Post a critique of the research study in which you:

  • Evaluate      the research questions and hypotheses.

The Research Questions and Hypotheses Checklist serves as      a guide for your evaluation. Please do not respond to the checklist in a      Yes/No format in writing your Discussion post.

  • Identify      the type of quantitative research design used and explain how the      researchers implemented the design.
  • Analyze      alignment among the theory, problem, purpose, research questions and      hypotheses, and design.

Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

Why did company management think it was necessary to install an ABC system? Do you agree with their reasoning? Explain your answer.

Read the case study provided and write a paper between 1,000 and 1,700 words addressing the following questions.

1. You are a recent MBA graduate and were hired by the company as a business consultant. Your objective is to identify areas for improvement. Present three business recommendations to management and state how this will impact the company’s financial statements.

2. Why did company management think it was necessary to install an ABC system? Do you agree with their reasoning? Explain your answer.

3. Evaluate and recommend changes to the organization’s cost drivers. State how this influences cost accounting results and business decision capabilities.

4. Is job order or process costing a viable option for the company. Why or why not?

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. Deliverable: Paper (MS Word).
