Below is the microtheme of my definitive argument essay. Gun Control is Not an Effective Way of Controlling Crime In the U.SGun Control has been an integral part in the increment of criminal activities in the United States. Gun control is a set of laws and policies that controls the sale and use of guns and who can own them. This law was passed in the U.S in 1968 and is known as The Gun Control Act of 1968. The main purpose of this law is to ensure the safety of people. This law has been very effective in reducing the crime rate in the United States. Research and studies have found that less than 10% of the crimes in the United States involve firearms. More than 90% of the guns sold in the United States are used for recreational and hunting purposes. It has been observed that guns are being used more defensively rather than criminally.  An Example of England can be considered for the effect of gun control when imposed. After imposing ban in guns in 1997, England faced a serious raise in the crime rate. Criminals felt safer since their victims were unarmed which led to a skyrocketing boost of gun related crimes by 40% and armed robberies by 53%. Whether a gun control law is imposed or not, criminals will always have an access of getting weapons from black markets and cross borders. As a result, the lawful citizens will face a very rough consequence since they will not have any source of protection. Acquiring a gun requires a successful background check that is carried out by the National Instant Background Check System (NIICS) making it extremely difficult for people with criminal record to a obtain a gun. However, possessing a gun doesn’t always ensure the safety of an individual. Research shows that there are more gun suicides than gun homicides in the United States. The government requires necessary actions to control the existing situation of gun suicides. In conclusion, gun control is the most effective way to ensure the safety of public in the U.S BibliographyMatthews, Dylan. “There Are More Gun Suicides than Gun Homicides in America.” Vox, 5 Sept. 2014, www.vox.com/cards/gun-violence-facts/gun-suicide-homicide-common.National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).” FBI, FBI, 3 May 2016, www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/nics. “Gun Control and Crime.” Gun Facts, 22 Sept. 2017, www.gunfacts.info/gun-control-myths/crime-and-guns/.Charles, Patrick J. “Gun Control.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., 9 Jan. 2017, www.britannica.com/technology/gun-control.Sanger-katz, Margot. “Gun Deaths Are Mostly Suicides.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 8 Oct. 2015, www.nytimes.com/2015/10/09/upshot/gun-deaths-are-mostly-suicides.html.Hawkins, AWR. “How Gun Control Made England The ‘Most Violent Country In Europe’.” Breitbart, Breitbart News Network, 24 Sept. 2014, www.breitbart.com/national-security/2014/09/24/how-gun-control-made-england-the-most-violent-country-in-europe/.“Gun Control Takes Toll On Outdoor Recreation Across Colorado.” Media Trackers, 25 June 2013, mediatrackers.org/2013/06/25/gun-control-takes-toll-on-outdoor-recreation-across-colorado/.January 17, 2018 at 5:00 am | By EMRY DINMAN Staff Writer. “State Lawmakers Consider Gun Control Bills.” Columbia Basin Herald – Local News, 16 Jan. 2018, www.columbiabasinherald.com/local_news/20180117/state_lawmakers_consider_gun_control_bills.

We have read many works of literature from the modern era.  However, it is impossible to cover every meaningful work in just eight weeks. Therefore, it is your turn to decide what literary works should be included in LITR 202.  You may choose to include works that we have read this semester, and you may choose to include additional works of literature that we did not discuss. Did this course ignore a country, a genre, or an author?  Create a literary canon that fills those holes.  There are a few rules, though: 1) Your essay must include at least four literary works from at least two different countries. These works must have been written during the modern era.  These works can be poems, plays, novels, and short stories; however, these works may NOT be films. Most of the literary works should come from this course.2) Your essay must be 1200-1500 words in length and contain at least three peer-reviewed articles.  The three peer-reviewed articles is a minimum requirement.  To achieve a higher score, you should find a peer-reviewed article for each of the literary works you have decided to include in your essay.3) You must find a scholarly source that directly focuses on your chosen work(s) that we did not read in this course. Please send me a message or post in the open forum if you have any questions about this assignment. Please remember the following: Avoid any and all summary sites within your essay.  This includes Sparknotes, Shmoop, Cliff’s Notes, and Wikipedia. Use MLA format and citations in this essay. Also, please write this essay using third person. You may not use any wording from previous essays or forums. Note that the works cited page and headings are not included in the page count (but they are part of the essay document). Use one-inch margins, do not add extra spaces between paragraphs, and use 12-point Times New Roman font. Scholarly sources generally come from academic journals and have been examined by experts in the field for accuracy.  Generally, you will find these in the APUS Library databases.  Make sure your essay has a clear introduction and thesis statement (specific, narrow topic AND an opinion on the topic) at the end of your introduction.  The thesis should be based on the readings in this course (and it should answer the question, ‘So what?’). Make sure your body paragraphs are focused on proving your thesis statement. Do not summarize the readings.  Be sure that your thesis expresses an analytical thought and is not just a statement of simple fact or plot summary. Make sure to have a conclusion that does not bring in new information.CLARIFICATION:This essay should encompass the literary works you think should be used for a literature class and why. Follow all instructions and double check your grammar. This is masters level work.
