You have already completed a basic study about genetics and  mutations. For this assignment you will research a specific genetic  disorder and create a PowerPoint to explain the disorder by addressing  the information outlined below. Potential disorder topics are found in  the table. You may also use the link provided below the table to begin  your research.

Title Slide with Name, Course and Date

Slide 2- Introduction
Name and describe your  chosen disorder. What happens to the body as a result of this disorder?  What part or parts of the body does the disorder generally affect? How  many people are generally affected in the US (or worldwide)?

Slides 3-4
Describe the symptoms of the disorder.  What happens in the body to cause the disease? Is it a mutation? How is  it inherited? Is it recessive or dominant or sex-linked? Is it  triggered by other events? Find 1-2 images to illustrate the symptoms or  cause of the disorder.

Slides 5-6
How is the disorder diagnosed? What tests are done? Is genetic counseling an option?

Slide 7
How is the disorder treated? Discuss medications, gene therapy, etc. Include an image to support your research.

Slide 8- Application of research
Summarize new  findings about your chosen disorder by researching current articles.  What new information did you learn about your chosen disorder? Include  the resource(s).

This assessment will identify your personal strengths, which have been shown to improve motivation, engagement, and academic self-conference. Through this assessment, you will discover your top five themes—which you can reflect upon and use to leverage your talents for optimal success. After you take the assessment, you will have the opportunity to schedule an optional coaching session with the Walden Career Services Center.

Please Note:This Assessment will take roughly 30 minutes to complete.

To Prepare:
To take the Assessment, visit http://walden.gallup.com. Using the Guidance Document Resource(s) for the Strengths Finder Assignment, follow the instructions for setting up an account. If the link does not work, please copy and paste the link into your web browser.

  • Once you have completed your assessment, you will receive your “Top 5 Signature Themes of Talent” on your screen.
  • Click the Download button below Signature Theme Report, and then print and save the report. We also encourage you to select the Apply tab to review action items.
  • Please keep your report. You will need your results for future courses.

A local social service agency has asked you to create a pamphlet or PowerPoint Presentation to educate the community about an issue related to Child Development. Using research in the lesson material as your main source, plus at least two additional resources, put together an informational guide about any issue from the lesson material that has to do with Child Development. Some examples are teen pregnancy, challenges and tips for parents during a stage of development, (prenatal, infancy and toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood, or adolescence), peer pressure, kids and social media, children with special needs, etc.

Prepare a pamphlet or PowerPoint that covers the following:

  • Start off by introducing the issue. Give a brief summary about it that includes facts, statistics, etc.
  • Who is affected by the issue and how?
  • What theories/concepts from the lesson material can help parents, caregivers, and/or professionals better understand the issue?
  • What can parents, peers, and/or professionals do to help with this issue?
  • What resources are available in your community to assist with this issue?   • Provide a brief conclusion of your presentation or informational pamphlet.
  • Provide a summary for your instructor. You may share what you learned by completing this assignment, any challenges you faced, any information you didn’t agree with, and/or any other relevant information you’d like to share.

If you make a pamphlet it should be 1-2 pages in length. While graphics are appreciated, they shouldn’t be your focus. Your pamphlet needs to clearly cover the required material.

If you make a PowerPoint it should be 10 slides minimum (not including a Title and Reference slide) and include notes at the bottom to clearly explain the bullet points.
