Write  a controversial topic related to  pharmacology. Explain appropriate use of pharmacology; the relationship  between quality patient outcomes, patient safety, and the use of  pharmacology; and how the topic affects communities and organizations.  Describe inequities regarding access to pharmacological treatments.

 

Professional nursing practice is based on knowledge that comes from  research. This research provides nurses with strategies to better  communicate with patients, as well as answers to questions such as the  following:

  • What are the most effective pharmacological agents to treat hypertension in an elderly Latino patient?
  • How do home visits benefit the family of a child with a severe chronic illness?
  • Are there new pharmacological treatments for mental illness?

Health care is ever changing. Research helps nurses understand what  those changes are and build on their knowledge base as they continue to  provide quality care to their patients.

In your professional nursing practice, you will likely encounter both  patients and coworkers whose personal or cultural views on pharmacology  may be quite different from your own. Understanding the most current  research on pharmacological topics will help you make informed choices.

For this assessment, imagine your supervisor asks you to write an  article on a controversial topic for the organization’s monthly  newsletter in which you review the most recent research on the topic.  She stresses you must present a balanced overview and equally address  the pros and cons of the topic.

Preparation

Complete the following as you prepare to write your article:

  1. Choose a topic from the list below:
    • The use of medical marijuana.
    • The use of complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) versus traditional Western medicine.
    • Experimental drug programs and disease management.
    • Mandated vaccinations for children and the implications for parental choice not to vaccinate.
  2. Search the Capella library and the Internet to locate  peer-reviewed research articles on your selected topic. The information  you use to support your work in this assessment must be as recent as  possible.

Note: These are very broad topics. Limit your work to the scope of your practice and be mindful of the page-length requirements.

Requirements

Once you have identified your topic, organize your article as you wish. Be sure to include the following:

  • Explain the appropriate use of the pharmacology related to the  topic. Include elements such as diseases or health concerns associated  with the topic and the efficacy and applicability of the pharmacology.
  • Explain the relationship between quality patient outcomes,  patient safety, and use of the pharmacology related to the topic.  Remember to address both the benefits and limitations of the  pharmacology in terms of specific diseases and populations.
  • Explain how the topic affects both the community and the organization in terms of promoting health and wellness.
  • Describe any inequities regarding access to the pharmacology  related to the topic. Is access limited to specific groups or  populations? Who determines access? On what is it based? Does access  influence choice?

You will need access to the “Hot Spots” Discussion Forum where we collected information about apparel and textile sourcing partners in the world. 

Upon successful completion of this exercise, you will have completed Learning Objectives in Modules 10-13. This discussion  focuses on current events and applying what’s happening in the world today and how it might affect sourcing of textiles and apparel.

1.  Practical: Adventure! (20 points)  Recommended the you post by 7/2 so others can respond.

Assume you are ready for a global adventure and are seeking a job in which you could be employed at least part of the time in a foreign country.  You will be involved in textiles and apparel sourcing.  And it doesn’t matter if you know the language or not; you’ll learn it while you are there or they may speak English.

  • Which of the data presented in Tables 9.2, 10.2, 11.2 and 12.2 in your textbook would help you in deciding the countries you might like to consider? Select your top three statistics (now your criteria for selecting a country) from the tables.   State them in your posting.
  • Now, can you think of 2 additional kinds of information–anything from anywhere– you’d like to know about a country that are not included in the above tables?  Anything! That’s a total of 5 criteria you would use to help you decide which countries are best.
  • Select 3 countries; you may only choose from the Hot Spots in the World countries (below is the list).
  • Create a chart with the 5 criteria across the top and the three countries you chose down the left side of the chart.
  • Fill in the chart.  Find the information you don’t have.
  • Post by end of 7/2.

2.  Current Events:  this is the tricky part. (20 points)

  • Go look at the other charts created by students.
  • Select a student who does not already have a reply and whose chart interests you. Maybe there’s a country that sounds more interesting to you.  You can make comments on as many countries as you want, but be sure at least one  has all the requirements from immediately below.  Respond to someone’s response!
  • Select one of the countries posted by the student for an adventure and now look up what’s happening in that country by using the research in “Hot Spots” Discussion” Forum.
  • Reply to the post and In the reply, conclude with whether you think this country is a good or maybe not-so-good choice for an adventure–and why! Remember that people travel all over the world from DFW on business every day.  Think about what sourcing personnel care about:  currency, political stability, labor force, etc.
  • …and include links to 2-3 current news articles–include a 1 sentence summary about what’s happening supporting your conclusion. Do not post about the population increasing, or facts like that, look for what is currently happening in that nation.  You may use links in the Hot Spots or links that are more current.
  • Add any thoughts you have about what’s going or what you know!

Good work, good information and good thinking may result is a few bonus points!  Be brief, be bright, be done!

Write a 2-3-page paper that addresses the following:

  1. Choose one scene where two characters who come from clearly different cultural backgrounds (race, age group, nationality, etc.) are interacting with each other. Explain what happened in the scene and analyze how the characters’ culture seems to affect their interaction. Be specific in your answer pointing to things in the interaction that are being affected by the person’s culture and explain the effect it has on the conversation. Be sure to include a description of what is happening in the scene to back up your statements and include concepts and ideas from your course resources to support your points as well.
  2. Choose a different scene where the characters are having a deeply emotional conversation (anger, sadness, fear, etc.). Describe what happened in the scene and analyze how emotions affected their communication positively or negatively. Be specific in your answer pointing toward various emotional responses, reactions, or triggers and how they in turn affected the communication between the two people. Be sure to give examples to support your ideas from the movie and include concepts and ideas from your course resources to support your points as well.
