What differences do you think there are between the way girls and young women view sports today compared to 40 years ago?

In recent decades, education institutions have looked for ways to provide equal access to education for those groups that have been historically excluded or underrepresented, such as women and minorities. Education is one of the areas where advocates believe inequalities are best targeted, addressed, and reduced. Watch this brief video, Education Eliminates the Gap Between the “Haves” and “Have-nots” (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., for more information on this.

Many institutions of higher education in particular have used affirmative action policies to address these inequalities. The issue of affirmative action is not without controversy. To explore the arguments for and against affirmative action watch the video Affirmative Action vs. Cultural Diversity (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and read the Affirmative Action Overview (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. from the National Conference of State Legislators.

Women, in particular, have seen many opportunities open up due to affirmative action policies over the past few decades. Some barriers to the advancement of women, however, remain pervasive. Read the article, Affirmative Action and What it Means for Women (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., for a discussion of the issues. The passage of Title IX, a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities, has been one way that institutions of higher education are held accountable for gender equality. Discrimination under this law can include sexual harassment and sexual violence, discrimination based on pregnancy, as well as failure to provide equal access to all school programs. For a full list of the areas regulated by Title IX see the U.S. Department of Education overview (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

One of the better-known impacts of Title IX relates to gender equity in athletics. While only 1 in 27 girls participated in high school sports before the passage of Title IX the number has increased to almost 1 in 2 girls in high school athletic programs since. Equality between men’s and women’s athletics is not just an issue of fairness and equality. Rather, at the heart of this issue is that academic scholarships are tied to athletic participation at the university level, therefore increased participation of women in college sports means more access to academic scholarships.

After viewing the required resources for this discussion, please address each of the following questions:
Summarize the arguments for and against affirmative action.
What barriers do women continue to face in education and employment? In your informed opinion, do you think affirmative action is a good way to help historically marginalized groups overcome these barriers? Why or why not? Be sure to use evidence from the resources to create an informed opinion.
Propose at least one other solution to overcoming the barriers women face in education and employment.
Was Title IX a logical policy response to the problem of gender inequality in education?
What has the impact of Title IX been on women in the United States? For more information on this aspect, read the transcript from a NPR show, Title IX Turns 40, But Has the Field Leveled? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
Did Title IX impact your life in any way?
What differences do you think there are between the way girls and young women view sports today compared to 40 years ago? In effect, has the participation in sports changed women and their role in society?
Other than Title IX, what other social changes have contributed to changes in perception about women? Please provide examples.

Your initial post should be at least 500 words in length. Support your claims with examples from required material(s) and/or other scholarly resources, and properly cite any references.

Discuss to what extent the agencies  have fulfilled their responsibilities to their mission and the original  intent in creating such agencies.

Assignment 2: LASA: Analysis of Human Services of an Abuse Scenario
In this assignment, you will be introduced to a  real-world case that requires a high-level analysis of theoretical,  ethical, and legal factors to explain how an abused child should have  been handled by the human services agency. This exercise will  demonstrate the types of cases that are common in human services. You  will learn how to approach such types of cases from necessary  perspectives that always need to be considered by a human services  worker.
Tasks:
In this assignment, you will read a scenario, analyze  its legal and ethical implications, and discuss options to address the  human services needs. Consider the following scenario.
You are working in a human services agency that provides  diagnostic services and residential placement to youth in the court  system. A female Italian immigrant teenager was placed in this center by  Children and Youth Protective Services due to suspected sexual abuse by  her father. The agency conducted an assessment on the child to  determine the effects of the suspected abuse on her functioning,  provided her with a safe environment for twelve weeks, during which time  she was allowed supervised visitation with her father, and encouraged  her to trust the staff members. During this period, her case went to  trial and was dismissed despite strong indications of sexual abuse. The  court ruling was based largely on the results of the assessment  conducted by the agency professional in addition to the client’s  activity in residential placement, including visitation with her father  during that period of time. As a result, the agency lost its funding for  residential placement. Therefore, the girl was returned to her home the  following week.
Apply scholarly theory, practice, and ethics to write an 8- to 10-page paper that includes the following:

Identify the legal and ethical obligations to both the girl and the father.
Identify the multiple levels of system failure in this case.
Discuss the distinction between the  legal justification for the release of the girl and the ethical problems  with such actions. In your discussion, explain how an individual human  services provider might come to deal personally with such a conflict.
Identify the cultural considerations needed when working with this family.
Describe the original or historical intent of child welfare systems in caring for vulnerable children.
Discuss to what extent the agencies  have fulfilled their responsibilities to their mission and the original  intent in creating such agencies.
Propose two to three culturally and legally appropriate strategies  that may be provided to the girl that will address her human services  needs.

Submission Details:

By the due date assigned,  prepare an 8- to 10-page report. Your response should rely upon at  least three sources from professional literature. This may include the  Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks,  peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional  organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov). Write in  a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship  in accurate representation and attribution of sources (i.e., APA  format); and use accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Examine an effective introduction of the adopted change in an appropriate organization or network

In this assignment, you will review how an adopted policy change can be implemented successfully to ensure that it overcomes the typical causes of implementation failure.
Tasks:
In a minimum of 500 words, post your responses to the following:

Explain what makes for effective implementation of change in general.
Examine an effective introduction of the adopted change in an appropriate organization or network. Discuss what made the implementation of this particular change successful.
Describe the review process during which policy maintenance, modification, or termination can be considered.
Explain the role of leadership in the implementation process. Discuss the relevance of continued influence and coalition building during implementation. Could there be merit in strengthening relationships between people and organizations involved in the implementation process? Why or why not?

Discuss the various ways that we get food (foraging, horticulture, intensive agriculture, and pastoralism) and how each food getting strategy influence the way people live.Discuss the various ways that we get food (foraging, horticulture, intensive agriculture, and pastoralism) and how each food getting strategy influence the way people live.

In your textbook, Anthropology, the autors write that the way  we get our food is important because “the way a society gets its food strongly predicts other aspects of a culture, from community size and permanence of settlement to type of economy and degree of inequality and type of political system, and even art syles and religous beliefs and practices.” (Ember et al. 2011: 270)
Discuss the various ways that we get food (foraging, horticulture, intensive agriculture, and pastoralism) and how each food getting strategy influence the way people live.
How do you think your life is influenced by the way you get your food?
