You will prepare an APA-style research paper to discuss energy topics, as follows: Part 1 In 1 paragraph discussion the following: In your own words, describe the laws of thermodynamics. Part 2 Describe the pros and cons of one of the following energy types, writing 1 paragraph: Fossil fuel: Oil, natural gas, and coal Nuclear energy Solar energy Wind power Water (hydro) power Bioconversion (biofuel) Part 3 Research and describe 2 provisions of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, writing 1 paragraph for each provision: Describe each provision, and provide your opinion about how each provision helps the United States meet energy use goals. Length of paper will vary but should be 9 fully developed paragraphs, roughly 3 pages but no more than 5, discussing the questions posed in parts 1-3. APA format is a title page, body of essay, reference page, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt font.   On Part 2 you only have to pick 1 energy type and write about it.

For this assignment, you are to construct a multicultural philosophy of education, which illuminates your fundamental views on educating culturally and linguistically diverse learners.  As you describe your current thinking, try to identify any metaphors you can conjure to explain your ideas.  Your paper should at least address the following questions and components: What is the purpose of education in a diverse democratic society such as the US? How does learning happen for students, in general, and for culturally and linguistically diverse learners, in particular?   What do you think it means, “to teach” and how do you believe you will facilitate the learning process as a teacher in a diverse classroom?   What do you believe is an instructor’s responsibility towards his or her students in terms of motivation, content, support, etc.? How is this responsibility the same or different for diverse learners?   What metaphor could you conceptualize that explains your role as a multicultural teacher?   What skills or knowledge do you want your students to gain from your classes?   How does your belief about teaching translate into action?” What specific examples can you reference that illustrate how your philosophy translates or may translate into actual classroom activities?     How do you or will you know your students are meeting the goals that you set forth?   How can you show that your assignments are meaningful and that they align with your goals and teaching methods?     What evidence can you point to that illustrates your student-centeredness and describe how you attend to differences in student ability, learning styles, or learning levels?  What different ways do you plan to teach students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds?   Tips for a Successful Paper Employ first-person language (e.g., “I, not “You,” “Teachers,” or “He/She”), Use a present tense point of view (e.g., “teach” not “taught”). Do not make empty statements.  Avoid jargon and buzzwords.  Yet, situate your philosophy within one of the philosophical traditions (perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, etc.) Illustrate how relevant literature (including theories of teaching and learning, and metaphysical, epistemological, axiological or ethical perspectives) informs your teaching and assessment practice
