What determine the credibility of a study finding, SR conclusion ,or EbCPG recommendation?

Use textbook to answer these questions: (Third Edition Evidence-Based NURSING The research practice connection Sara Jo Brown)

From chapter 11
1) Name 3 triggers for EBP projects
2) What kind of clinical questions are not answerable by evidence, particularly research evidence?
3) Explain what each of the letters in the PICOTS acronym stand for
From chapter 13
4) What determine the credibility of a study finding, SR conclusion ,or EbCPG recommendation?
5) What woulf make the recommendation of an EbCPG, the conclusion, of an SR, or the findings of a study clinically significant?
6) Name three issues that are considered when evaluating applicability.
APPLICATION
1. A 45 year old man with a family history of hypertension but who is not obese ask you whether daily brisk walks of one mile would help reduce his moderately elevated blood pressure.
You are not certain and decide to look for research evidence about this issue.. Put this into PICOTS format to focus your search.
2)You are working in a visiting nurses association and a woman who is receiving outpatient chemotherapy for chronic lymphocitic leukemia says that she doesn’t like the side effects she experiences with the drug she is taking to control nausea. She has heard that taking ginger can without side effect and wants to know what you think about that. You ask your supervisor but she isn’t sure either, but says that several other nurses have asked her about. She raises the issue in the staff meeting and the decision is made to develop an informational sheet for patient considering taking to control nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy.. You and two other nurses volunteer to look at the research evidence and develop a protocol draft. Put this clinical question in PICOTS format so you could look for research evidence about to use as a basis for the information sheet.

She has just been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease after experiencing frequent bouts of abdominal pain, diarrhoea and weight loss over the past six months. She also has a history of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus which was diagnosed when she was six years old. Emily is currently prescribed subcutaneous glargine and actrapid for her Diabetes and has just been commenced on corticosteriod and antibiotic therapy for her Crohn’s disease.Emily was admitted to hospital 5 days ago for further management of her Chron’s disease which has not been responding to therapy. Emily has been experiencing ongoing abdominal pain, diarrhoea and vomiting and has continued to loose weight. This part of the assessment task requires you to develop a nursing care plan for the patient in the provided case study. In order to do this, you will need to consider the role of the interdisciplinary team and registered nurse in the mangement of this patient.

In addition to a brief introduction and conclusion, Part B of your report should include:

A discussion of the importance of the guiding priniciples of self-management, empowerment and advocacy in the collaborative management of the patient and her family.
A discussion of the role of the registered nurse in the management of this patient and her family and an analysis of the ways in which the registered nurse could collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team to co-ordinate the provision of comprehesive nursing care to the patient and his/her family.
A nursing care plan that contains five (5) nursing interventions that would be appropriate for the patient at this stage of her presentation. This should be completed using the template provided in the additional upload
Each intervention must be supported by a rationale that explains at least one or all of the following: how it will address the underlying pathophysiology, how it is keeping with the guiding principles discussed in your report and/or how it is consistent with current best practice.

Your report must adhere to academic writing conventions. Sub-headings may be used, but dot points and tables should not be included in the main part of your report.

You should support your discussion with a MINIMUM 12 recent (less than 7 years old) and credible sources. Credible sources include, peer reviewed journal articles, text-books, evidence summaries, best practice guidelines, government documents, health facility clinical guildelines and policies/procedures and websites containing content aimed at health professionals.

Critically analyse the application of the theory to the field of practice, that is, explore the strengths and limitations of the theory in relation to the field of practice.

First and foremost, this topic revolves around the AUSTRALIAN society. So focus, examples and pointers should be within and related to the AUSTRALIAN context.

This is also a paper for a Social Work degree course and is under a subject called ‘Contemporary Practice Approaches’. Hence, the context and relevant literature or references should be related to Social Work Theories and applied WITHIN the context of Australia.

Overview

This essay requires you to critically analyse ONE social work theory and critically apply this to one field of practice. The field of practice in this essay would be ‘depression experienced by young people in Australia’. This essay requires situating your analysis in contemporary social work theory debates. The types of Social Work Theories that could be applied are (for example);

– Cognitive behavioural therapy

– Empowerment Theory

– Strengths Perspectives Theory

– Solution focused Theory

Hence, choose ONE theory that could be best applied and analysed in the context of ‘depression experienced by young people in Australia’.

Expectations

This essay has two parts that will inform each other. You are asked to examine one theory and argue why you think it is an appropriate theory or not to use in the field of practice (depression experienced by young people in Australia). The following outline will assist in structuring the essay.

Part One: Reviewing a Theory (approx 1000 words)

This should include:

– Describing the social work theory you have selected.

– Exploring influences on the development of the theory, that is, how has it historically been situated in social work, what is its relationship to social work values, purpose and professional identity.

-Exploring modern/postmodern influences of the theory.

Part Two: Applying the theory to field of practice (approx 1500 words).

This should include:

– A brief description of the field of practice – what do you know about it? (i.e: What do you know or can explain about depression experienced by young people in Australia?)

– Critically analyse the application of the theory to the field of practice, that is, explore the strengths and limitations of the theory in relation to the field of practice.

– Your conclusion to why you think the theory is applicable or not to the particular field you have examined.

NOTE: think about concepts such as power, gender, culture, purpose, truth etc. to help your critical analysis, that is, points of contention between different theories will help you engage in CRITICAL discussion rather than a descriptive discussion.

This essay is asking for CRITICAL ANALYSIS and this will be the focus of marking and grading. It is about showing your ability to contribute to theoretical discussions and debates that currently inform social work. This is an academic paper and so needs to be written in the third person. It also needs to draw on a range of social work references that engage with your theory, field of practice, and theoretical debates.
